Almost forgot, Summer of '98 Starlight Theater 5th row- Robbie wearing his signature 'Tie-Dye" T-Shirt... Introduced the band. 99deg's out, wife's pregnant, she stayed for the whole show. Was married and knew my concert days were numbered. This is the last time I have seen them all (except Dave) together... last time I have seen them, period. It had been 4-5 yrs. since Steve performed handstands on his keyboards... those were the days... the Summer Jams when he wore KU colors and tennis shoes.
Saw 'em in '76, '77, '78 & '79 @ the Royals Stadium & Arrowhead (Summer Jams), Municipal Auditorium & Memorial Hall, then '80 at Municipal Auditorium, saw Walsh's band "Streets" here in Phx. in '83- I don't recall 'em in SoCal during the '80's/early '90's while I lived there. Next, the '94 (or was it '95?... gettin' old...) festival at Penn Valley Park, & one last time at Memorial when they opened for The Allan Parsons Project in '95. I miss 'em... And who are you? Exaclty? Afraid of your father... drunken? Afraid of Death? Mother? Do not tempt the Lord Satan.
Not according to your mythological jesus. He said, "...Satan is the The Lord of thie World..." Indeed, it is that biblical passage that inspired an Appalacian cult of "christians" that worship Satan, even as they identify themselves as christians, because they must appease "The Lord of This World"... HAHAHA! Better to believe in nothing as I do, because your own book contradicts you!!!!! HA!
(Although, ifI HAD to believe in something it would be Satan, much cooler...)
@NVRambo Oh man, I got to see them live about 3 months ago. Greatest night of my life. I'm only 16, but I even convinced some of my friends to go with me, and now they're Kansas fans too. Love this band, they don't have a bad song.
I like how I'm 22 years old and the majority of my generation has no clue that this stuff even exists, the same even applies to the generation that was around when Kansas was at their prime. I think the "obscurity" of this music in a sense is what makes it that much more special. The first 7 Kansas albums are phenomenal works of art.
I'm so glad that Kansas didnt become a christian rock band and I think everyone else is too....Kerry Livgren became a devout christian while Steve Walsh was an agnostic. That's the real reason why Steve left and Elefante came in. And in order to keep the band from becoming a Jesus freak band, Kansas came back together with Billy Greer and Steve Morse instead of Hope and Livgren. Don't get me wrong, I love God and I'm a fan of Kerry Livgren, I'm just not a Jesus-freak.
No. Steve Walsh was a coke addict. And Kerry was a drunk. But, drug addicts are generally geniuses. They see the World differently than mediocre citizens. They have to imbibe to survive... As Hemingway said, "It is necessary for an inelligent man to be drunk, when surrounded by idiots..."
@Paganguy1 Really? Are you going to make fun of Christians because they believe strongly in their faith? You act like they are the "freaks", yet you waste your life posting all that bull shit below, and even go to the extent of naming your username "paganguy", like you deserve some special treatment. Your the obsessive freak here, from what I see. People can interpret music how they want, stop shooting them down for it, Youtube is a free world.
That is funny. You know Google is going before congrress to fight for the right to make all of our identities public. They say we should NOT have any privacy because of cyber-bullying. Funny, some retarded teenagers kill themselves and we all suffer... YouTube is NOT a free world. It is TV and you cannot believe ANYTHING you see on TV, can you? Are you going to defend TV?
I love Satan, if it ever existed... The Stanic Bible hates sex with chukdren, but your god apparently likes it.
Hmmmmmm... maybe sexual slavery, (which is absolutely in the Old Testament.), and human sacrifice and all manner of Evil is something that is burbulling within you?
I love Satan, but I could never hurt any living creature.... xtians can.... because of thier twisted sense of justice... hmmmm....
Shut the hell up! You know you love Satan more than god.
@Paganguy1 You haven't the slightest clue what you are talking about. If you had even a remote understanding of a single principle of Christianity (regardless of whether you believe it or not), the doctrines completely and entirely negate what you are insinuating.
That aside, Kansas is amazing. Fantastic band through and through... too bad the 80's hit them and nearly every other 70's prog band like a sack of bricks.
And Song For America was their finest LP in my opinion. I wore the 8 track out, and still hear the spots where the music faded out to switch tracks. It was better than Masque, Kansas/Kansas/, Leftoverture(mostly), let's just say better than 90% of the Kirshner Records catalogue they recorded. And their shows on Kirshner's Rock Concert tv show should have been taped for posterity!
Don't any of you forget that big Dave Hope, the bass man, is now an ordained minister in the Anglican Church in the panhandle of Florida, a town called Destin, and is actively involved in their music ministry there. Check him out on the wiki site. I find it encouraging when former rockers turn from that sex, drugs and rock lifestyle to something with more meaning spiritually.
One of my most favorite Kansas songs. I too, had an 8-track, and LP of this, and wore them both out. Many good memories of cruising in my '70 Monte Carlo, too! Wish there were a live track of this.
my brother played this on lp at home and 8 tracks too and had an 8 track in his mone carlo wow good old days we called it going for an ear bleeding or a bone ride..joints and kansas were lots of fun.
lyric " take a look at what the futures holdin won't be yours if you don't heed this call" was by steve also.
not to offend any person here, but kerry reminds me of a televangilist. and steve is pure and true in his beliefs, and does not require the flocks to follow him or to turn his music into a church service. that is why i respect steve walsh, and have little respect for kerry livgren post 1981.
we all know that kerry became born again.. but the most important thing was the amount of talent goin into the songs of kansas.. forget the lyrics for a min. n just enjoy the masterful musicianship n incredible vocals from walsh!!!

Great footwork from Phil on this tune!
Walsh's voice was prime
Although underneath the vocals, the lead guitar at 1:57-2:10 is killer
