i love gary but he isn't to well liked in the usa by other guitarists i saw jimmie vaughan at bb kings club in nyc and met him after the show we talked and i told him i love gary's playing he replied you like that guy, interesting comment i thought

Yes he seems to have a bad reputation, i guess thats his own fault. It is also very seldom you hear about him these days.
