This warms my heart. I've loved Japan, its culture, and people every since i was little. I cant wait for the day i move to japan, than i will truly feel at home.
when i heard that word "shrine" i tought hey this looks the same as the shrine in the anime higurashi i love that anime ,but the game is soo fun i want to play it to!! haha
when i saw this video i was inspired to write a piece of music to honer the japaneese shinto shrine, iwe used the beatyful children playing for the intro, hope you like it;) H.Heiden...watch it at "Shinto by h.heiden"
Each hand sign in the game of じゃんけん (janken) is pronounced in Japanese as follows:
Rock = "Guu"
Scissors = "Choki"
Paper = "Paa"
"Guu" is for Guriko (The name of a Japanese candy maker. It actually spells Glico. Why they picked this word as opposed to, say, Grape Juice, is beyond me.) "Choki" is for chocolate and similarly, "Paa" is for pineapple, each sounding like the first syllable of their corresponding word.
This info probably should've been included in the side bar.
When the first two girls "disappeared" behind that big tree at the top of the stairs leaving that poor kid alone at the bottom, I was literally rolling on the floor laughing (or ROFL as the kids say these days)!!! ; D
Hello luke666808g, This shrine is located in a small village called "Nagakuma" (long bear) which is located in the mountains outside Shizuoka city. I agree that the area certainly does look similar to Nikko. -Kurt :-)
A perfect video! You are so talented Kurt! Love all the captions to explain things. You live in such a beautiful country. I marvel each time I watch and see the beauty that surrounds you! Heather
Hello Heather, I 'm delighted to learn that you found this video interesting. YouTube sure is a great way to share with friends and family. Thank you very much for your nice comments! Say hi to the family from us! -Kurt :-)
Nice !!! You add more info on what they were saying. Thanks a lot. I was curious about their version of the rock paper scissor and they decide how many step they could take.
I like your video so much! It's like I could taste what it is like to live in japan. I want to win the lottery to be able to move there : P
Hello freakmrhyde, Thank you for your nice comments. I'm so happy that you could share this outing with us via YouTube. I hope that you will get a chance to visit Japan yourself in the future and experience many wonderful things during your stay. -Kurt :-)
Hello TheJapanChannelDcom, I'm sorry for my late response while I was in hospital (I'm out now and in great shape!). This video was indeed a very late posting as I filmed it last summer. One of my year-end goals was to get all of the videos I was sitting on posted to YouTube before the start of 2010. I almost made it and this was one of the efforts. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)
Hello LivingDog94, I'm sorry for my late response. The girls were indeed counting their steps. They were doing this in time to certain chants such as 'gu-ri-ko' and others. I can't remember the exact chants though if you check the video notes I have provided more details there which may be helpful. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)
Hello LittleToyGunsRicardo, Please come have a look at the video again as I have added an explaination since the time you viewed it. I'm sorry if the video was initially confusing. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)
Ah, the summer cidadas--such a classic sound.

This isn't in Nikko is it? I thought it looked like it a bit but there's hundreds of places like this in Japan.

Poor boys. ^_^

Were they counting the steps as they walked up? I know they were saying "rock-paper-scissors."

That is possibly one of the cutest things I've ever seen.
You dont see kids playing like that here anymore. Makes me sad. If it doesnt need batteries then kids arent interested here.
