No, I do not agree. You can't blame the media for this. What you are seeing in this documentary is largely recorded media reporting (albeit AFTER the event).
Noone could invent in science fiction, lower forms of life than Howard and Downer (as this documentary makes abundantly clear and unquestionable).
But these vermin were elected to office by an Australian public joyous at their first election then re-elected despite the obscene and obvious lies about children overboard.
Or are your "elections" largely rigged like ours?
Can you imagine the havoc if a JFK Jr. or a Ron Paul got into office? Aint goin to happen and if it does, it's nothing that cannot be 'fixed' by a 'lone nutter'.
Australians generally trust the Aust. Electoral Commission (with good reason?) so the question of rigging doesn't arise much, but just what is going on?
However, my own experience is that many Australians, at all social levels, have some pretty sick attitudes. Basically, nothing is more important than our material well-being and our lifestyle; other peoples lives, the environment, other living things, nothing!
So they grovel at the American Embassy as the altar of George Bush/Obama.
Common sense says that the Australian public should have been outraged by this, so it just doesn't stand to reason that this arrogant affront to the will of the people should be rewarded by electing them to office - but they were! Most people put this down to an Australian lack of common sense at the time. But there have been numerous "questionable" elections since then.
Yes, I agree with you UnoRaza. Many Australians believe our elections are rigged. Indeed, Whitlam was re-elected after being coerced by the opposition (blocking of a supply bill) into a mid-term double dissolution that forced him back to the polls. Yet the opposition did the same thing again a year later.
Australians rejected Howard and his crew of low-life only when mortgage interest rates rose. After Rudd has squandered a fortune in porkbarrel politics and played Obama-style pea-and-walnutshell politics for his term the Australian public will re-elect a re-constituted LNCP team of unprinncipled visionless sycophants. The problem here is the Australian public. A nation of utterly self-absorbed, self-interested and now self-infatuated spoilt ignoramuses
Eternal battle between human rights and governments. Unfortunately it won't end with any alternative government in Australia. Our two party system is a illusion of choice.
im from the u.s. we get only kool-aid news here... Australia supported indonesia to terrorize east Timor? Why? I do believe but I am ignorant of their motive.

This well crafted documentary just goes to prove how pathetically our main stream media has fallen down on the job in properly informing the public.
