The Plextortion sounds an awful lot like the Manifold drive. - Or maybe the Manifold is right in-between these two.

That would make an interesting shootout for GMD.

I ordered a Pinnacle and on kinda an impulse buy I grabbed the Plexi-Drive with it. I was expecting to love the Pinnacle but it has a bit to much low end flub for me, that you can't control, wishing I'd gone with the Plextortion now. But Holy crap the Plexi-Drive was instant love. Rhythm crunch heaven! I'd never sell it.

I really like both pedals. But handsdown my favorite is the Plexi-Drive. But the pedal its self could be better if it had a boost that would give you more of the plextortion. a guy can dream cant he?

@Brad81188 I'll tell u an easy solution. get they cheap yngwie 308 dod pedal and put it before the plexidrive if you want more gain. I just got the plexidrive today and i'm tellin ya it's amazing! i tested it against a plextortion. the plexi drive has more harmonic content and typical cranked plexi, if you want that tone from the start of black shuck by the darkness u WILL get it, i was amazed.

First off if you are using these little amps running a massive gain box or heavy overdrive what is the point?

Wampler just bloody rules in the overdrive and high gain dist. The Plexi Drive is really an overdrive while the Plextortion, Super Plextortion, Pinnacle and Triple Wreck are the massive high gains. As for overdrive this one is great but the Ecstasy wow!

Hell no, the Plexitone smokes both of these man, I have em all and trust me on this. The plexitone has way more headroom, better dirt, the boost and just sounds leagues better, smoother. 3 pedals in one. The CM Plexitone is the best Marshall in a box I have ever heard and used so far in 20 years IMO.

How do you normally set the tone controls in your z amp?

You should all be able to hear that the Plexi-Drive adds that heavy bottom end and raw midrange punch like a dimed Plexi. The Plextortion is a more compressed gain with smoother gain and less bottom end, just like the 80's JCM800 tone it represents.

If you have a clean Fender amp, the Plex-tortion would be better for you to add more dirt to your tone.

It depends on what type music you are playing. I play in an AC/DC Bon Scott era tribute band, so the Plexi-Drive does exactly what it is supposed to do. It turns my JCM900 MkIII stack with medium gain into a JTM45 Plexi with that heavy bottom end and raw midrange punch that cuts through the mix. A Plexi-Drive will open up any Marshall head. With my Gretsch Malcolm Young Jet Sig. it is the essence of AC/DC late 70's tone. For what I do the Plextortion is too much gain.

Both sound great to me. Although most people are saying they prefer the Plextortion, I wonder if the Plexi-Drive would work better with an amp that is partially breaking up.

@ebeatworld With a Marshall JCM800 MkII, JCM900 MkIII, or DSL2000 just over the edge of crunch breakup, the Plexi-Drive is the essence of that AC/DC raw tone. If you want 80's hair band stuff gain, get the Plextortion.

i bought the Plexidrive and the limited edition pinacle and have to say both are amazing through my lonestar classic. was using the bb preamp witch is still good for blues soloing but can sound grainy at low volume. But these pedals kick ass

PLEXI DRIVE - sounds smoother, more transparent, a little flabbier at times (it's an overdrive, some great overdrives sound like that), and not as gainy

PLEXTORTION - gain sounds gainier, fuller, and more saturated

The way he started with the pedals set made the Plextortion sound fuller, but the way he ended (after turning down the gain on the Plextortion) left me diggin the plexidrive! I think with more juice the plextortion takes it, but at lower levels the tone sounds REALLY thin next to the killer crunch of the Plexidrive.
