Finest way to market a game : Give your old version out, so that the people who have never played it are curious for portal two, and the people who have scream "WHAT!?" in excitement at their computer screen and try to look around it hoping to see what it dragging you away.

Nop. There are rumours that the Aperture Science laboratories were closed (from the outside) by the Combine. But GLaDOS wasn't turned off. So there are no scientifics or anyone but you inside, GLaDOS's still testing subjects. Take that as a rumour. I'm pretty sure that there will be clues of what happened with Gordon and Alyx because we are 100 years after them. And we have a clue already: The world wasn't destroyed yet. XD
