  • Great test, even though Shinedown is, alongside Nickelback, one of the worst bands this century.

  • @dasnake1234 AMEN. To think what passes for big-name talent these days... one of the worst examples of crude drumming technique I've ever seen. Textbook example of how NOT to play. Young drummers, don't pay any attention to gorillas like this and you won't have to worry about breaking cymbals. Watch guys who know how to generate power without just gripping the sticks in a fist and brutally beating like this banal basher.

  • I bet this guy has to get new cymbals and heads every month

  • Unless I miss my guess, I believe the Q3 DOES 1080p.

Most folks do 720p because of " the card". GET A BIGGER CARD!!!!!!

  • We use this for our radio!!! Its on this channel!

  • "with the Zoom Q3HD we are able to re-live the glory years of Korn again and again!"

  • should of gone out front of house with it dude

  • the video is average but for the price the audio rocks and gets you great "CLEAN" audio. cant see any reason a musician or anyone in loud places would want to use anything else for some quick video/audio grabs.

  • what kind of monsterous shocked mounted cymbal stands are those? never seen cymbal stands with boots before.

  • @hotWatrman I think those are like cable ties for all the mic cables everywhere round the kit?

  • Every demo I've heard on Youtube is the same - basically a drum solo with everything else compressed out of the mix. I Have the Zoom H2 which can capture a live band e more faithfully, but like the idea of the Q3. Dids you use automatic settings for this or did you set the levels manually?

  • the sound on this camera is good too bad its not hd.Too bad a 1000$ nikon d 5000 has crappy sound and does good video for 5 minutes. Canon is similar the t2 at least has a mic jack.My cheaper canon s5is has stereo great sound and you can adjust it.Too bad it only does 640x480 video. So i think ill buy a nice recorder from sweetwater and use that for the sound. The sound is real good on the q too bad you cant zoom??

  • The image quality is decent enough for recording a practice, but as for a live performance? 640 x 480 just isn't enough.

  • nice refs drums they should sound good for what they cost!!!

  • hell yeah barry's kit is sweet!

  • Get out if front of the band so we can tell how well it differentiates the different instruments.

  • hey man do u think i could do drum covers with it please let me know thanks

  • I have been watching a bunch of these videos, and as good as the quality sounds, it always seems all that records is the drums, and drowns out everything else, as if it picks up that more then anything else... mybe it is just how i hear it... but is this the case in most. I have heard some good stuff with people making ust home recordings, but it seems like every live band i see with stage set up, it mainly just picks up drums.. and that can be an issue... maybe i am just missing something...

  • Well if the camera is right next to the drum kit (as it is in most of this video) obviously the drums will be louder.

  • well, I have seen others..such as the Lamb Of God, where even when it appears the camera is on the opposite end, in front of the guitarist, it still seems as if the drums still come through most.

  • @MoonisGod226 and they are all wearing in ear monitors which would mean that the drums would be the main thing you would be able to hear on stage, unless you had the in ear monitors as well. This reduces the stage monitor volume and prevents feedback.

  • Well again with the LOG video the camera is for the most part on the stage where the only "acoustic" instrument is the drum kit (and Randy's vocals) To get the best mix it would make the most sense to be out in the audience but in most of the videos the camera is moving around so the mix isn't really consistent and the drums end up sticking out.

  • @daviddowns81 maybe cus the drumns are loudest acoustically and the position of the camera on the stage

  • @daviddowns81 The drums are naturally the loudest instrument. On professional recordings the drums are set in the back behind the rest of the mix which is kind of an audio illusion because the drums would easily overpower all the other instruments if you recorded it in the same room without baffles and gobos etc...

  • No its just the band, the Zoom Q3 is Fine!

  • can you tell me the settings of this video? thanks

  • dude you should of gone out the front of house...filmed it from the other side of the PA

  • Could always use the sound on this (When you record sound only you can get better quality), then get yourself a good HD camera for the video and just edit them together.

  • LOL.......Be nice blackshirts13......but seriously....Do you really think he sucks?....Honestly???

  • I LOVE THAT SNARE!!!!

  • Nice video, like your style...........! kind regards from Denmark.

  • I met Barry. Hes an awsome musician. Mark my words. Shinedown will be around for a long time. Although they coulda made a better video like second chance. Zoom Q3 is awsome. I am a drummer an I use it for recording an playbacks of my drumming to see how good or bad I played. Goodjob zoom keep it up.

  • This thing is great, audio is the best on "any" video camera available bar none. Got mine @ Same day music (they're in!).

This thing is designed for musicians. I suspect the next generation will be HD, which will make these (1st gens) sought after akin to the analog-digital recording paradigm.

Gimmie crappy video (like this) any day. Zoom Q3 is an instant "classic". Drop the $250 you won't be sorry.

  • I really like the idea of the Zoom Q3. Does it eliminate the need for a external lapel mic? What's the sound like it I was to talk from behind the camera? Does the mic still pick up the sound well?

  • yes got one mic pointing to the front and one to the back

  • not quite, its an x/y stereo pair of condensers. they both 'look' across each the line of sight of the other microphone (so to speak)

  • Can't wait to try the Q3! I can think of a few uses right out of the box to use for our business. I have an H3 and it's been great too

  • cause it's shot from the side genius

  • You miss the point. The sound is disappointing and the video more so. I've yet to see one convincing video made by this camera that is acceptable in both areas. I am hoping version 2 is better, because I'd love to have something like this that works as advertised. Understand, "Genius?"

  • it ovious that you only hear the drums because he is just on a side of the drum if he was near the amps you will hear better the guitar and the vocals

  • Now wouldn't that be preferable so as to determine they wouldn't be drowned out?...

  • Badass

  • Awesome!

  • Look at Shinedown go to work:D These guys are awesome no matter what they are doing:D Go Barry Go!!! I love that song! Shinedown Rocks:D
