For those that question why you put yourself through such pain, it's because they do that one thing they always wanted to and it's worth that. Wrestlers do not put on aggressive matches, guys like Vader were a bit more stiff but that's only to make it look aggressive. In fact Vader in particular can often be heard during matches (he talked a bit too loudly) asking if they guy was ok.

Unlike a play or a musical composition or even a ballet, pro wrestling is not scripted - and therein lies it's fundamental conceit. Actors know their line, musicians know their charts, dancers know their steps. Wrestlers get in the ring and basically wing it. It's closest to contact improvisation. The wrestlers communicate as the go along, often with the input of the referee at the direction of the promoter.
