They were talking about Bill who had to have surgery (I don't remember exactly when that was, a year and a half, two years ago maybe?) on his vocal chords to remove a cyst that had appeared there, probably following some infection. Some people blame his smoking for it, but I don't personally think it had anything to do with it.
