  • I always loved this song since seeing Windjammer as a boy and also from playing the album. I think I still have two LPs and, thanks to you, Lorene, I have the music on CD now. Because of this song, I always loved the name, Kari, and, if I had thought about it at the time, I probably would have named one of my daughters Kari but I didn't think of it. Maybe I will still name a pet Kari someday. :-)

  • Lasse Kolstad, the actor and singer, celebrated his 90th birthday on January 10, 2012, and he passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012.

I was at the first showing of the movie Windjammer at the Colloseum Cinema in Oslo way back then at the age of 6, and I think that movie made me become a sailor later on.

    memories, memories...

  • @TheKaiNormann I did not know that Lasse had recently passed away. RIP Lasse. I will forever love hearing you sing "Kari Waits For Me".

  • @TheKaiNormann RIP Lasse. We will always remember you and your beautiful song Kari.

  • Wonderful song!

This great Norwegian singer and actor died yesterday, 90 years old.

  • R.I.P. Lasse Kolstad.

  • We hear the famous conductor Øivind Bergh conduct The Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra And Choir!

  • @casinobowling What a wonderful concert that would have been.

  • Kari is a Norwegian name. It was the famous singer Mr. Odd Wolstad (Norwegian) who song this first of all, on a singleplate. He got a voice who make goosehaut all over one, very much indeed.

Unfortunealy there is nothing to find about him in the archives, just a description of his career and his last restplace - a graveyard in Stavanger, Norway

  • @ireopor I love Kari and I love this song. I would love to have heard Mr. Odd Wolstad sing Kari. Thank you for sharing.

  • This song and movie hold so many memories for me -- of my parents (now both gone), of a world that is no more, of Cinerama and Cinemiracle. It's very nostalgic, almost overwhelmingly so. By the way, this is a different version of the song than appears on the soundtrack album. There, the singer has a better voice.

  • @UncleCharlieOakley The voice you hear singing Kari Waits For Me" in the movie is the actual voice of the actor, the great Norwegian actor Lars "Lasse" Kolstad.

  • Yikes! I was named after this song, and I have had to correct everyone's pronounciation ever since! Still.. nice to see it on here. Thanks for posting. :-)

  • @KalahariKAri It is a beautiful name. One of the most beautiful names ever.

  • I'm pregnant now, and hope to have a daughter to name her Kari :-)

  • @scotiasplace It is a beautiful name and a beautiful song. If I was going to have a daughter, I would do the same. Best Wishes!

  • We named our Daughter Kari after this very song. She was born in Feb 3-1969. Today is her 41st. Birthday

    "Happy Birthday Kari"

  • @hotcoffee46 It is such a beautiful name. I would have named my daughter Kari if I had one. "Happy Belated Birthday Kari"

  • I am a Kari, born in 1962, named specifically after this song! My parents have this album and I also listened to it over and over! I now live in Minnesota and I do run into a few Kari's, due to the large Norwegian population! Love all the songs from Windjammer- thank you!

  • It is such a beautiful name and a beautiful song. I grew up hearing the soundtrack to this movie also and it is a part of me. Have you ever gotten to see the movie? Do you still have the album?

  • No, I have never seen the movie and yes, I have the album (I am able to sing or hum along to all the songs!). I also have a commemorative book that describes the making of the movie.

  • I have the book and the album as well. They are wonderful treasures.

  • I am a Kari born in 1966 named for this song as well. I remember the cover it was two girls sitting on rocks on the shore waving to the ship out to sea. My dad gave me the record but it got lost in a move. I saw the ship twice once as a kid in TX and in DC for the Bicentennial in 1976. I would tease my Dad and call it the "Christian Radish". Hope someone digitalizes the movie IMAX would be cool.

  • Thanks for uploading this song and, thanks for your background information !

  • It is fantastic movie history. I just wish that someone would come up with the funds to completely restore this movie. It is so worthy. It is not well known today and is such a unique and wonderful movie. I am glad that I was able to put these clips on YouTube to hopefully give the movie some recent exposure.
