Everyone envolved in the play was present in the film except for Ernest. Why do you suppose he wasn't asked to have his say in the film? {just kidding!}
One of the greatest games ever played. As my late, GREAT Dad said when I walked in to visit him and my Mom moments after this game ended, "it's a shame someone had to lost this game". He was right. Unreal game, and fantastic memories. Poor Cleveland, who had a fantastic team back then.
@AlmightyKingCane Agreed. This game happened in 1988 but the playoff games in December/January are still called based on that year's NFL season. For example, the Giants-49ers NFC Championship occurring on 01/22/2012 will be called the 2011 NFC championship game even though it doesn't even take place that year.
I was a huge Denver fan, but I met Kevin Mack earlier that year at my Mom's hair salon. He sent me a ball with his and Byner's autograph. I felt really bad for Byner. He was a good football player.
Well I've just finished watching all the Cleveland teams' heartbreaks. You poor bastards. It must be tough being a Cleveland fan.
Come cheer on the Brisbane Broncos in Australia. They don't break your heart like this, been in the competition for 23 years and made six grand finals and won all of them. Don't bring your curse with you.
I thought this was going to be some kind of inexplicable fumble with nobody around. Turns out that it's not so hard to understand as a random fluke as he was manoeuvring under pressure with the ball.
@G2ThaBizzo You hammer the poster for puncuation and you used the word "your" instead of "you're." That makes you dumb and a hypocrite. As for the language used to respond to someone else, it only makes you appear to be the one that is a child. Only trash would hide behind a keyboard and use the language you have used. You wanted to put someone in his/her place and you ended up making yourself look like the one with the fifth grade education and the maturation of a 10-year-old.
@G2ThaBizzo I am not a Browns fan or a Broncos fan. However, you seem to be going after another poster here recently, hammering someone as if they were from some "slum" and asking if they have graduated "...the fifth grade?" At the same time you call that person "...a fucking asshole" and tell them to "...suck a cock." You also call that person a "...low life faggot" and then say "I'll be your (sic) like four years old." You are the moron.
Cleveland is destine to suck at everything 4ever hence tha name "The Mistake By The Lake" I been there b4 tha place is a fucking dump and the people from there are total asshole probably because it's been 4ever since a team from there has won a championship of any sort or maybe its the other way around all I know is I love watching Cleveland teams fail time after time hahaha FUCK CLEVELAND!!
@G2ThaBizzo I think you may need to return to the slum you came from and graduate the fifth grade. Have you ever heard of punctuation? The little thing called the period? Yeah, it keeps rambling idiots from combining 35 sentences into one long, drawn out, run-on sentence. If you are going to take shots at something, you should at least attempt to sound like you are over the age of 13, moron.
This play was a triple win for the Redskins, first the Browns would never have got runover by Timmy Smith the way the Broncos did in SB XXII, plus they had a much better secondary than Denver and would have matched up better with the skins 3 great WRs. 2nd The Broncos began to believe their own hype and went in as favourites and got cocky. 3rd They later got Byner for a steal as the Browns never forgave him for the play.
@RoyG72 keep telling yourself that, the fact is the Browns were never good enough to beat the Broncos to get to the Super Bowl, and they were definitely not good enough to beat the Redskins in the Super Bowl.
I disagree. The Browns WERE good enough to beat the Redskins (They had an awesome backfield with Dixon/Minnifield). As a matter of fact, the BRONCOS were good enough to beat the Redskins in SB XXII.
They didn't. They lost badly, as we know [sniff]. Worst heartbreak of my teenage years that didn't involve a girl.
been a long time since I saw this replay, the thing that struck me is look at the body language of Byner. That is the look of a play that will haunt a man till he goes to the grave. Complete devastation.
@jck148 You are a dumb shit.. 10 years ago would you have said that the Saints would win a Super Bowl? Unless the world comes to an end or the NFL folds, every team will eventually be able to play in a SUper Bowl. Actually, the Browns have won a Super Bowl, in 2000. The teams name may have been Ravens but those were technically still the browns
peyton hillis wouldn't of fumbled. i don't know how but the browns find new ways to hurt my heart every season... i sincerly i hope they win a superbowl before i die
The worst moment in Browns history. At least, since I've been following the team. There is always tomorrow though & that what makes me a Browns fan, for life. GO DAWGS!!!
@egghead62 I remember watching this game when I was 12 years old and although I am still a Browns fan, that game broke my heart. I've never followed them as closely as I did that season.
Amazing play by Castillo - lucky he backed off the bump-and-run.

"The Fumble" was one of the best things that could have ever happened for us Redskins fans. Byner was a great asset to the skins.
keytardan 3 months ago
@keytardan Amen to that - and if Cleveland wins here, I think the Skins beat the Browns, but I doubt they put up 35 in a quarter doing it.

What do you expect for a city that was once had to call the fire department to put out a trash and oil fire on the river?
jck148 8 months ago
Byner would recover nicely by spearheading the Redskins running attack en route to a Super Bowl trophy.
As for the Browns franchise, they would move to Baltimore and win a championship of their own in 2000.
The city of Cleveland, on the other hand...

Even if Cleveland did tie the game, they would have found some other way to lose,
Denver would just march down the field on their next possesion, and score a field goal or a touch down, and use up all the clock.
