  • HI ! Are the Test Footages shoot in FullHD i50 ? The motion are not clean, i advice only shot in 720p50 or eventually 1080p25 on still Footages. I buy this camera soonly :)

  • Actual camera is shown starting at about 5:00 for those of us who don't care for watching someone open boxes and packaging.

  • papa is riche rich...

  • If you don't mind me asking? How much was it ? Thanks.

  • how do you put the videos on your computer after wards ? and also is there a way of putting fisheye? and how much does it cost

  • @HEYDUDErocks1 I use a program called Clipbrowser v2.6 to upload the files to the HDD. I've never used a fisheye but it does have a 77mm ring on the front.

  • Hi. I am trying to decide between EX1 and NEX FS 100 and not sure which one to choose. Have you looked at FS100? What made you to buy EX1? Thanks.

  • @whoyoum Can't gett he FS100 in Oz yet but have read about it. Seems more of the filmakers camera while the EX1 is an all round camcorder.

  • Very nice camera! I have 2 of them. I suggest strongly you find an after market base plate, because the stock plate is prone to break. I just went through that, and the camera hit the cement, costing 2,700.00 to fix! Check my vimeo video on the subject. vimeo vid - 25642523

  • @ChadWork1 Hi CHad, I read your comments ont he DVXuser site and saw the video, very unfortunate. I have however ordered the plated from JuiceDesigns, so hopefully will be with me soon. I've noticed my FX1 has the same small baseplate as the EX1, I wonder if people have had the same issues?

  • @GanEdenAustralia I haven't heard anything about the FX1 plate, but then again I don't pay attention to that camera. All I know is I lucked out in that I got the 500.00, 3 year "anything goes" protection plan from B&H that saved by butt. I have that on one camera, not both. The 2nd EX1 I won in a contest, so I have to protect it extra carefully. EX1 is a WONDERFUL camera! I'm sure you are enjoying yours. Cheers!

  • I've used different settings on the EX1 and I think it only outputs HDV in interlace format, even if your external recorder will accept progressive. Try setting the video standard to SP 1080 50i rather than HQ 1080 25p. Unfortunately, you get all the interlace artifacts. I will send a PM about my experience with these 2 cams.

  • @CameramanLink Thanks, will do.

  • @CameramanLink The Ex1 does not film HDV. It records to SxS-cards.

  • @OyvindSaboFilms But it does: it records HDV to SxS cards when set to the SP setting - the HDV format files are recorded to cards rather than tape.

  • Never heard of the SxS cards before, are they like the size of PCMCIA cards or similar?

  • @linuxcooldude Yes they are a similar size. They slot into an Expresscard slot.

  • @linuxcooldude

They are very expensive, for a 32gb card it's $700-$1600 bucks, but has a have a transfer rate of 800 Mbps and a maximum data transfer rate of 2.5 Gbps is pretty much a express slot card

  • @RetroPCDOS Thats whys I'll be buying the alternative as mentioned int he video.

  • Wow, I take it this is a professional camcorder, what pro market does this camcorder cater for? I've never heard of SxS cards, is that a Sony standard like Memory Stick? I take it this is an HD camcorder, right? That's quite a strange looking camcorder, it doesn't look too much like Sony's consumer grade Handycams like the tape based ones DrCassette and Vwestlife seem to use a lot.

  • @Lachlant1984 It's classed as Prosumer but also crosses into the professional market as well. SxS cards are a very expensive media but support the EX1's reading rate of 30mb/s which is a very fast speed of writing the video to the card. I will get the cheaper alternative using a specia; adapter and SDHC cards.

DrCassette has an older VX1000 that when back in its day was also classed as prosumer as well. :)

  • Have that same Sony PMW-EX1, you will love that camcorder, had the FX7 before this one that I hated using, had so many issue to even list, but with this one they built it right. Shoot mostly documentary and street videos with it.

  • @RetroPCDOS Excellent. The .mxf files seems to edit very well in both Vegas and Premiere as well and despite being very high quality are far better than AVCHD format files.

  • @GanEdenAustralia

It's is essentially XDCAM, easy to edit, small in size, and produces a good final delivery with little or no issues and the quality is better then AVCHD codec, due to. MXF high 50MBbit/s bit rate better in color reproduction. ideal for more accurate colour correction and chroma keying than the AVCHD format.

  • @RetroPCDOS Yes I love the mxf format so much easier to handle.

  • This has to be a great camcorder. I've read a couple of reviews about it and this camcorder always got very good results.

Of course accessories for professional grade camcorders such as batteries and SxS cards are very expensive...

  • @DrCassette Yes it is one thee best handycams around, with a close challenger being the new Canon XF300. I have just the one SxS card but will be getting the cheaper alternative being the e-Films adapter with a class 10 32gb SDHC card that pops inside it, saving me a lot of money yet giving the same results.

As for batteries, Swit do a cheaper 8 hour battery afor a third less than the Sony U60 battery. :)
