Wow yeah, I just noticed. It is easy to impress someone with your guitar playing skills. But it takes shawn lane to touch you to the deepest part of your soul. He will be missed. His wide intervols when used in his jazz playing are awesome. I cant believe he is dead.. but the cool thing is he still touches and still amazes us even when hes gone. Thats why he is a true legend. There is still only one shawn lane. R.I.P
@yeti30312 I HATE YOU!!! Nothing personal you know, I hope you understand :P I was only 6-7 at this time, but still... what I would give to have been there... his "solo" is monstrous in a way that defies regular guitar monstrous-ness. Not even fast just.... yeah
we stand on the shoulders of giant, this phrase is not only true in the world of science but also in my world of beautiful music. , I can hardly believe that so few people have heard this man ,what a lost talent to have left us with so little yet so very much, thank you sir. love you man
What else can you say about Shawn that hasnt been said already? Simply the perfect blend of blazing technique, phrasing and true heartfelt emotion. MY favorite musician of all time
why is it that our greatest influencial minds always leave us before we can grasp their full potential.. I just discovered this guy and i'm completely overwhelmed.. I'm a drummer and Shawn makes me want to change professions... Amazing....

Who would ever have thought that this humble man from memphis would be in my opinion be the best fusion guitaristthat ever lived! Thanks so much for this post.
The 40-year-old guitarist left behind a legacy of musicianship that definitly should have elevated his status far beyond that of a cult hero to worshippers of over-the-top guitar playing. but it does make sense to me how such an amazing musician could benefit playing under the radar because then he could truly without any negative pressure practice what he truly loved to do. RIP Shawn Lane
@3ucketheadJuggal0 lol my bad, my comment was meant for someone who said "I would suck 10,000 dicks in a row to see a live performance of Lane." I think I had many Lane vids up and commented on the wrong one? Idk, either way, that snare roll makes me want to vomit, I am just NOT WORTHY!
Actually they didn't compose so much (Hellborg was the main composer). the magic is the fact that every gig you'll find on the internet is diffrent, even if they begin with motif you know nobody knows where they're going to end :)
may Shawn Lane rest in peace..we lost an incredible musician who gave us purely inspirational music that will last forever.this trio was pure combustion one of the best power trios in music history.
Ok. I actually got my start in bassin' from Hellborg.
My brother's friend met him in Sweden and had him come to NY to visit. While he was here he auditioned
for the Brecker brothers. He had this demo cassete I got a copy of called 'A basic thing'. That demo ROCKED. I wish I still had it. AFAIK he's never released any of that material with anyone else.
I dunno. But I still love Jonas Hellborg. He's one of the best bass players out there.

now Sipe is drumming for Derek Trucks, would have been great to hear Lane/Trucks collab, especially w/their love of Indian music.

For the most part...Americans are musical illiterates. We treat art as wallpaper and music as a biodegradable argot.
I pay them no mind.
