  • what's the size difference between the 25 and 27 series stoves, if any?

  • @kaenkanen - the 25 has cookpots that measure 1.5 liters in volume. While the 27 comes with cookpots that maeasure 1 liter in volume.

  • @kaenkanen Ask Google.

  • Are you sure the other one is stainless steel? Can't find a hint on Trangia's site (only UL, UL NS and UL HA), do you know the exact name?

  • @yvranx - Trust me this thing is DUOSSAL. They don't make it anymore because I bought it in 1998.

  • @jeeping32810 "They don't make it anymore"

    That explains it then, thanks.

  • I prefer stainless steel cookwear. Bought the Trangia Westwind stove. It would not nest inside a pot so I made a potstand out of a can. Now it nests Trangia stove in potstand inside .75 qt pot.

  • Love your video. Since you've owned your cook set for 2 years now, how is your hard anodized finish faring? Super interested in your opinion. I'm thinking of getting this set and I'm wondering if it's worth almost double the price.

  • Your video inspired me to search for a UL all HA (hard anodized) set. I found it but it's backordered from the Canadian supplier. The aluminum sets are easy to come by, but the all HA sets are in demand, albeit much pricier, probably because of their sexy dark grey colour.

Thanks for showing us your sets. It's really helpful.

  • Why are you setup on a card board box?

  • @newtubetubetube - because underneath that box is the concrete floor. I just felt like it could scratch up the hard anodized finish... So I just did it on a cardboard box. I know that things suffer wear and tear over time... but if/when I have the chance to try and eliminate any unnecessary wear and tear... I do it.

  • @jeeping32810 That is a big card board for that purpose. I thought of fire hazard when i first saw it.

  • @jeeping32810

A great kit to have. Mine is duossal, so it is a little heavier, but not that heavy. It boils water quickly, since the pot size is small, and it works in windy and rainy weather without a hitch. In cold weather, the burner unit needs a little bit of encouragement with preheating.

  • Optimus makes an adapter to use either their (discontinued) model 11 Hiker or the replacement Nova stoves with the Trangia windscreens. The 11 and Nova are liquid fuel Sigg bottle stoves and they come standard with 3 jets, M,A,G (Multi, Alcohol, Gasoline/Coleman. So with the ten dollar attachment you can use pressurized alcohol/meths burner in the Trangia. I have the old model 11 and adapter. Actually alcohol is the only fuel I use with the Optimus 11. It speeds up cook times tremendously.

  • @Darto501 Primus is making both a GB-74 Gas burner aswell as a special trangia version of their Omnifuel. Available from trangia, so ask your trangia dealer for it.

  • Where did you get this set? I can't find a complete hardanodized set anywhere. All the ones I've seen have regular aluminum windshields but everything else is hardanodized.

  • @MrPatchesOhoulihan Check out this website... I got mine here. They have a good selection nwbackpackDOTcom

I have also see an alternative version at this site canadianoutdoorequipmentDOTcom

  • Brilliant Video :)

  • deciding between 27-6 and 27-8. Non-stick vs HA what do you think? Do a lot more things stick to the HA rather than the non-stick? Is the non-stick worth the extra weight?

    Also, thanks very informative video!

  • @cirstenseverin The HA works great! I have had great success with it. But if you wanted non stick I would suggest just getting the fry pan in non stick. I am a much bigger fan myself of learning to use oil to fry things than to have non-stick surfaces. Using oil will pump up your calories on the trail as well. Plus you can really lay into the surface and it stands up to wear and tear. I personally vote all HA. That works for me, YMMV.

  • Could you us rubbing alcohol as a fuel for this thing? I would also like to know where I can get denatured alcohol. Is it something that could be purchased at wal-mart or homedepot?

  • @Tegulicious Just visit any auto parts store or walmart and get yourself a YELLOW BOTTLE OF HEET. Don't get the red bottle. Otherwise you can get denatured alcohol at lowes or home depot, but you might have to cut it... it will soot.

DO NOT use rubbing alcohol. It too will soot your pots.

You can also use everclear the drinkiing alcohol.

  • Bullet proof reliability, cheap fuel and good results = TRANGIA !!

  • Just got a spare simmer ring for mine - ebay item 260562464601 ... now i've got two and use one for 'snuffing' and one for simmering.

    VERY HANDY!!!!!

  • Excellent video. Helped me decided between the stainless steel and UL HA. Do you use the attached fuel system or just the fuel "cup" it comes with?

    iholzman

  • ULHA is the way to go... what do you mean by "cup"? You mean the alcohol burner? Yes I have never used either of the attached liquid fuel burners. I only used denatured alcohol with what I call the "puck". I am not a fan of the waste/expense associated with those other fuels. My main source of fuel 98% of the time is alcohol. I have many stoves.

  • Dude, I've spent weeks trying to locate the 27-2 UL HA, and when I do find it, it is either $150, or they are out of stock. I've found many other adaptations, like the 27-8...which is what I ordered. I based my dicision on this video, and it arrives tomorrow. It is UL and HA, but the wind screens and the water pot are just UL. 5 straz dude. Thanks for the recommendations.

  • Where did you end up ordering from? BTW... Hard Anodized makes the biggest difference. Hope you enjoy, feel free to check back in with your analysis.

  • These are the best stoves! Love them!

  • Where did you buy this, I can't find any of the HA models for sale only the UL.

  • Hello mate. Thanks for that, very helpful. How robust is the coating on the pots? Is it likely to last a good while? I assume you have to be a bit careful with the coating when you stir food and only use non-metal utensils...?

  • I dont know if I ever resonded to this post. I believe that the UL HA is the best Trangia ever period. I just have tried every pot/pan combo with so many stoves. Many not even on video here. I believe overall I am a solid tried and true Trangia UL HA fan. Yes it is solid. Yes it is non stick, easy to clean. Just get it from somewhere that would let you return it if you dont like it... but I DOUBT that would happen! Good luck, this is the best.

  • Good video, I'd make the following suggestions...

    1) Redo the video with a Voice over... It's hard to hear your voice over the sounds of the pans rattling and knocking together.

    2) I will never cook food in anything made from Aluminium, or anything thats been Teflon coated. Stick with the Stainless Steel. Yes it makes it harder to clean up and it does stain.

    Just my personal opinions...

  • You won't cook with aluminum, I'm guessing you're one of those people who believe that you can get Alzheimers from it. Well since the 1960s, there has been no conclusive evidence that aluminum is linked to Alzheimers. Also hard anodized aluminum is aluminum that has been submerged into an electrical acid bath witch toughens up the aluminum so it's twice as hard as stainless steel, and makes it non reactive to acidic foods. And if use correctly, teflon coated pans are fine to use.

  • Stainless has nickel toxicity, copper is deadly too.

Anodized aluminum is safe when it has a thick coating.

Cast iron is best, and healthiest, but a little messy, and needs grease applied regularly.

  • Yes "400" Series Stainless is high in nickel. This is why it's very shiny and doesn't rust very quickly.

"300 series" is what they use for food products. It is actually very low in nickel content. Specifically "304" is what is used to make the Tankers that haul dairy products and other food stuffs on the road and rail.

PS I agree with you, Cast iron is the best. But since I do 99% of my cooking in the microwave I use Glass (Food grade = No lead) cookware. It's also 100% recycleble.

  • great video - trangia kits are excellent, light, and inexpensive to buy and fuel!

  • Ty for your vid, i am looking for somthing like this, (ann all in 1 cook system) however i more of a fan of cooking with fire. is it sutible for lighting a small fire and placing the tragia over the top? (not a fan for carrying fuel) and how long will it burn when full??

    Thank you

  • Great vids. Been thinking about updating my Trangia set up from the old military version. How has the anodized one worked so far for you? Any loss of the coating? Also do you recommend the 25 or 27 series? 5/5!

  • I am very much extremely happy with the new version. I find that not much sticks. In fact... nothing has stuck yet. I find there is not chipping or anything like that. I would take the Hard Anodized ANYDAY over my previous version. 27 version is for 1 to 2 people, while my understand is that the 25 is for a larger 3 to 4 party. I believe the 27 is smaller. I have always had the 27 series. I cannot say enough about my new UL HA version.

  • Thank you for the great information. I do have some old Coleman HA pans and they have been good to me. Ever any interest on selling your old duosal kit? Let me know, I would probably take it off your hands. :) Hope this finds you well!

  • great video and annotations! Trangia pots are good kit, but try a PotPal™ out instead of the orange bag- It's all about being multifunctional!

  • Thanks for your reviews they are helpful.

  • Cant wait to get one of these!!!
