@slowfaller yer but i thoguht if yer battery is flat it wouldent even show the neutral light :s tht what happend to my bike, gotta kick start it then ride around to charge it.
Thanks for the comment, I hooked up a battery tender and that got it started. What threw me off was that weird clicking/grinding sound, that had me worried. Thanks!
plugged in a battery charge for an hour and it fired right up. went to the store and gas station and had no other problems.. looks like it was the battery. thanks everyone.
and dumbduck, i agree that the noise it was making sounded like something worse but i'm glad it wasn't
I don't agree on the battery, never heard anything like that from a dead battery. Usually low batteries make "click click click" sounds, not a rapid fire grinding like that.
The thing is that your engine isn't turning over, so it can't be fuel or spark. I dunno... not cool! I sure hope I'm wrong, but in 14 years and through dozens of batteries, never had anything sound so UGLY. *shudder*
It's just the battery, living where you live, it would be a good investment to buy a battery tender, you can get them for about 40 bucks online, or 55 from a dealership. I would bet you a shiny nickel that If I tried to start all of my motos in the garage, one would make that same sound..The reason the lights and fuel pump fire fine, is because they don't require the same amperage as your starter needs to physically turn the pistons. Charge the battery, or bump start it and you'll be good to go
Just as a side thing I'd check your fuel valve. No one really uses them, and they can get bumped and turn off.. probably not it, but the best help I can be, haha.
1 Bump start the bike and run it for a while. If it won't start, it could be a lot of things.
2 If the bike starts, run it for 20 minutes or so to charge the battery. Turn it off and then attempt to restart it a few seconds later. If it won't start you probably have a problem with the starter.
3 If the bike restarted in step 2, leave it overnight and try again in the morning. If it won't start in the morning it's probably a battery that wont hold a charge.
Thats looks the same as when the battery went bad on my Bandit, it even happened when I was out on a run, stopped for a smoke then bike no workee! , a bump start got me home.
I dont know it seems weird, the thing you hear clicking is the starter, and it seems to be working fine, and battery to me seems to be fine also, maybe the spark plugsare the problem, could be fouled. That would be my guess. Good Luck Brother!
sounds like the battery is bad. If its not the battery check also the battery connections to the bike and if its not check the wire tree maybe a contact is loose. hope you fix it without big costs
Sounds like it, make sure the battery is fully charged and go from there. I reckon its the battery though, or even bump start it and riding around should charge it up again.
Worst sound in the world! My lawn mower does that 2 lol

@slowfaller The "clicking" is the starter solenoid. Basically, a symptom of a battery problem in the sense of poor charge or poor connections.

ahh i had this problem once. theres too much air in the tyres.
wolfy1991 2 years ago
Man, I change the air every 500 miles! haha

It's ok, all I gotta do is ship the bike to Kawasaki in Japan. They said they'll run a diagnostics test for free if I pay shipping. Good deal!

are you talking about a petcock? this bike is fuel injected so it doesn't have one of those...thanks for the comment though

Is it universal that no bike shop is open on a Monday...?
xenojackal 2 years ago
In Illinois it pretty much is.
suburbanryder 2 years ago
Your battery weak, probably a dead cell because its going through the pre-start self checks after trying to start and the key is on.
It would be better to get it checked out, it could be just a dud battery or the bike is doing something to the battery (over/under charging).

Don't think so, if the plugs were fouled the engine would still turn over, just not fire.

people are saying battery, sound right?
slowfaller 2 years ago
Not sure what the problem would be, your starter motor maybe? If you're really itching to ride, have you tried push starting it?
budlac 2 years ago
didn't bother with the push start although I am familiar with it.
