  • Man nobody knows who wrote this do they? It was Robert Johnson.

  • Wrong Key

  • fink

    anybody?

  • Very nice jazz-funk version of a rock classic.

  • i don't really care for this (John Mayer's) genre of music, but this song and "assassin" are friggin amazing.

  • @spoofsgalore87 john mayer is amazing & his music kicks ass-- my uncle whom w/ rest of my relatives are garbage & will die soon but will be put to death soon- my uncle lives outside of des arc arkansas in a town called crossroads- my relatives are garbage & I cant wait until tabitha & my relatives are sentenced to death

  • way to rip off steve miller. jet airliner is still a better song than this.

  • @alonx300 he did not rip off steve miller, he is doing a cover of blues classic crossroads, the riff that he is using is eric clapton's original riff for this song when he coverd it with cream, although the original is by robert johnson

  • @alonx300 wow, you are ignorant (on this topic at least)

  • @alonx300 You mean Cream?

  • why have you altered the pitch?

  • I would kill for this distortion..

  • @loekiedepo NG2 Pete cornish pedal £490 i saw one for EEK

  • He needs to do a more blues rooted album. Idk what the hold up is. I like him better as a blues artist.

  • i liked John's version...come to think of it, he won the grammy for Best Rock Solo Performance with this version!

  • @17thisone Well, he didn't win, but we was nominated.

  • sam and dean are gonna have to clear this up with some salt

  • @Drep4521 haha. nice 1

  • this song is friggen fantastic

  • LOVE the guitar.

  • Why is this a octive higher?

  • @FLIGHTCOMPANY Ive noticed the same thing...

  • @FLIGHTCOMPANY Octave?? Surely you mean half step!

  • i'd like this a lot better had he have done it in E standard. also, substituting the E for an F minor was genius =) i enjoy his creativity with this

  • @BlackHawkGaming i dont like minors-- love this song and love john mayer-- he is creative- classy- talented and sexy-- bad news they were adults when they carried out their crimes against me which means the death penalty will apply

  • this whole album is fucking genius!!!

  • It's genial !!... John Mayer takes this genial Blues song and turns it into a Rock version ! = )))) .. Solo still bluesy thought, but many songs mixes in blues drags and licks in 'em

  • This is a cover.

  • @Horaciow14 You be kidding? duh

  • i dont know if anybody cares but this is in Bb, on the album track or at least the one i have, it's in A.

  • It sounds to hip hop. The kid can play the blues live and stuff but idk about these studio versions of stuff. Call me old fashoned but i think it strays to far from the blues and what it really means to feel what you play

  • @petie58 hip hop? you're on drugs old man

  • @SuperParmenter Im 17. not an old man. This sounds nothing like cream. Have you ever heard Robert johnsons version? THis is to pop for my taste. strays from the blues.

  • @petie58 i feel like John did this song very good justice. If anything he's playing more soulful than cream. He slowed it down and just focused on playing. he went even closer to blues in my opinion

  • @petie58 man, c'mon, this sure ain't hip-hop, i know the RJ version and the cream version and i love 'em all.. i'm really into (30's, 40's) 50's and 60's blues but i like this as well.. it's just givin' a modern jive into a song that wants to be kept alive.. my opinion though.. u keep thinkin what you want..

  • @petie58 yeah i hear you on that, i'm 17 too. I can't stand it now days cause newer generations are hooked on this shit they call music. and plus, the old bands are dying off and the only thing left now are a couple old remnant players and new, fill-in band members who change the pace of the song from its origins. idk, I just grew up waking up to classic rock playing away on my alarm clock all my young child life. i'm just glad my dad set my alarm clock to that radio station all my life =/

  • @SuperParmenter this is so hiphip man its like hiphop r&b funk over a blues progression

hiphop and rap are two different things remember

  • @RobbieMacIntyre you really think calling it hiphop and rap are gonna raise this song's rep??? thats a disgrace to clapton =/

  • @BlackHawkGaming i think clapton would be stoked to see people doing interesting shit with his music. also i did not say that this is rap. i said its hip hop and that hip hop and rap are two different things

  • @RobbieMacIntyre

this isnt claptons song. it was originally played, wrote and recorded by a guy called robert johnson in the 1930s...

    real music

  • @deepersamwise Right, right, very true. But I'm sure he was referring to the playing style rather than the song's history in general

  • @deepersamwise thanks tips. this is still definitely a cover of claptons cover. dont try and make yourself feel cool by stating obvious facts

  • Doesn't sound like the original Mayer recording. Like the vocals have been double tracked.

  • I prefer Bonamassa too. The Ballad Of John Henry is probably one of the coolest riffs i've heard in a long long time.

  • IS THIS ALL A HALF STEP UP ON THE GUITAR??

  • one person can suck my faaaaat puerto rican nuts.

  • good

  • I would not even compare bonamassa to clapton, but at least he can play the guitar

  • horrendous. Nobody woud look to this guy if he weren´t "nice looking" and called himself a "blues player". Cream´s version is infinitely superior. Don´t even talk about robert johnson´s. This nice looking good boy with his carefully messy hairstyle and lack of soul it´s the new eric clapton? Give me a fuckin break. See clapton playing this in his japan tour 2009... That´s blues. Robert johnoson sold his soul to the devil, not to label records and tv chanels

  • @hungerstriker27 being a hardcore clapton enthusiast and listening to him at his best with the bluesbreakers and cream and such, i can say this for a fact. John mayer is an amazing guitar player. This song does him absolutely no justice about how amazing he is on guitar. Pop is what pays his bills, but he seems like a real blues player. Just search around on youtube to see how amazing he is.

  • @hungerstriker27 then why do you suppose claton thinks he is an incredible blues player im pretty sure he knows a little more than you do about good guitar playing

  • @themanchild27

please show me the interview where clapton said that. I must admit I don´t know the entire work of Mayer. Bt the things I´ve seen, he is a good player, but he is a thousand light years away from the masters... (SRV, Clapton, hendrix, gary moore, bb king, buddy guy, etc...) And i´ve read dozen times people saying he is the new clapton. That´s ridiculous. He hasn´t the skills or the soul. Even bonamassa, who can destroy john mayer hasn´t the soul.

  • @hungerstriker27 the fact that clapton had him play at his cross roads festival multiple times has played on stage with him multiple times shows that he respects mayer if he tought he wasnt go he wouldnt waste his time playing with him b.b. king also has played with him so has buddy guy and he was planning a tour with srv's band double trouble now if they thought he wasnt great would any of them play with him? i dont think so

  • @hungerstriker27

I hate the way people use the "he's got no soul" argument to diminish someone because they can't think of any criticisms for their playing ability. to be honest it's kind scraping the bottom of the musical argument barrel, and just proves to me that john mayer kicks some serious ass. The truth of the matter is that his technique is flawless, his ingenuity is unparalleled, and if you look up soul in the dictionary, you see a picture of him giving all you haters the finger.

  • @YouCanSqueezeMyLemon

Ok. I will say this. I admit I didnt knew too much of this guy. After put this comment I saw the guitar lesson of this song and I changed my mind. He is in fact a good player. BUT, what I still don´t like is... he plays blues. Why he has to do that pop vacuum singles like "Your body is a wonder land"? And for the term soul: I´ll put it this way. For me is.... I can listen to satriani playing a 5 minute solo of speedy licks and he won´t make me feel nothing.

  • @hungerstriker27

And I can listen to jimmi hendrix sitting in a chair with an acoustic guitar playng "Hear my train a comin" and listen the rest of the day that tune.

  • @hungerstriker27

I'll admit that with some of his albums you have to dig a little deeper than the commercial teenage girl stuff to get to the really tasty stuff. but when you do, MAN, it just sings. joe satriani doesnt do much for me either, he can play but its very technical. he's all about the modes nd stuff nd not so much about the feel of it.

  • @YouCanSqueezeMyLemon

And I must admit that this version is arefreshing cover of crossroads.... so that is what troubles me. I prefer Joe Bonammassa speaking of new blues players... The ballad of john Henry is awesome

  • This song should be called knoppers or something like that instead!

  • thats my favorite song.

  • it's a match made in heaven, john mayer and music!

  • Hey, this song is in A, not A#!

  • @dreamquarter Remember...Copyright issues.

  • Mr. Mayer's gone and cursed himself.

  • lyrics so wrong.. omg..

  • @d33sert5torm no they're correct. ;)

  • i love this song

  • good damn song, i challenge anyone to try it :) very creative, wicked tone

  • i am a big fan of John Mayer, but he butchered this classic. Im sorry john. even his normally exceptional guitarplay was medocrie.

  • @trevor1573

i think this classic has been recorded in a rock version quite often (cream , rush etc)

i think he wanted to try a new approach

and don't forget that a lot of people listen to his music, that are normally into pop only

he maybe causes and inetrest for the blues...

    which is a good thing

  • @trevor1573 That's what my dad said too.. But I like it more than the original!

  • the only good song on the album...

fresh and funky! well done john!

  • Umm how??

Hes taling about meeting Jesus at the crosswalk...

  • this song=musical sex

  • @football20zac hmm metallical is good too lol
