Destination Truth did a show on this today. Found something weird in the water watching them, but nothing up close, what ever it was stayed away from the lights.

I wouldn't say a mermaid exists in the traditional since, but a marine creature with a semi-humanoid torso with grasping limbs isn't completly out of the question, just don't be expecting something that looks like a hot babe with
