That one song by Van Halen could never crush "anything" that ACDC did. Besides, ACDC is and will always be a heavier band than Van Halen. "Let there be Rock" is much heavier than ATBLove. Same thing with "Overdose" and especially "Whats Next to the Moon."

I can see Roth's side of the story (re; the feud) Ed & Alex love Dave's humour and split second one liners, but the minute Dave "gets going", you can see the distain "on the front of their heads".They love the fact that he drew people to the band, but couldnt take it that HE was the real attraction. Everybody is right here. Van Halen IS more 'pop' than AC/DC. Although AC/DC has more pop elements than they want to admit. In the end, you had two drastically different but still fucking INCREDIBLE bands playing back to back at a huge rock festival. Considering it was 1984, I'd imagine both bands were amazing that night. Media was stupid for the rivalry nonsense. Good times. Rock N Roll. Carry on.

AC/DC had a more laid back attitude. It seems to me that David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen were bashing AC/DC. Like when he said there's no rivalry in their minds, maybe in AC/DC's minds, and when he said who comes up with those advertisements, the admen or AC/DC ... and again when Alex said "We're taller." Just these little jabs. All Angus said was that Van Halen was more of a pop band. He didn't slam them at all. And look at the band who endured. By the way ... where IS David Lee Roth?

Honestly, just leave it at this, nobody knows if wether or not they actually had a rivalry besides the two bands, and knowing how quite AC/DC keep their personal lives, we'll never know, BUT, Angus is right, VH was always more focused on pop style music, they had heavy stuff, but AC/DC topped them not only in heavy rock, but in Rock N Roll which is what overall matters, AC/DC's clearly the better band by miles. Though I do like both, AC/DC just has more soul, power and energy.

@TISSO - VH could pull off poppier rock songs like Jump w/ too much ease for the taste of their fans that like their heavy music. They have an ecclectic sound from record to record. However, AC/DC couldn't hit it as heavy as VH did w/, say, a 1981 performance of Unchained. VH could be as heavy as anything out there, which was also why they were mislabled "heavy metal" in the early 80s by some. Imagine being called both pop and heavy metal. VH themselves preferred "hard rock" as their label.

PS: I enjoy both VH and ACDC BECAUSE they're from different genres. I have a hunch that there were some slightly bitter feelings betw.these two bands at some point because it appears that both were irritated (or at least uncomfortable) with the questions about each other. Ask Angus now about VH and he probably wouldn't go there. And back then, DLR was known for his needling comments about other groups (eg: towards The Clash at the 83 Us Fest). Bands don't always get along great. Competitors...
