  • It's funny how when people visit another country they always note how friendly the people are; a bit of a cliché...

  • Achilles94627 You are so right dear. Another thing, when tast

  • Has anyone ever hosted a hakarl eating competition?

  • .... and all because the forefathers were poor!!! *grin*

No surprise my German ancestors left the north and went south to pillage and loot - EVERYTHING but no more rotten fish!

Ah, Scandinavia - beautiful people, beautiful land ... but without doubt the most horrible food in the world!!! Rat cheese in Norway, Surstroming in Sweden and all the rotten fish you could ever dream off ...

Serious, Iceland is still on my 'to go' list - must be a beautiful country.

  • ah the guy who works at that hotdog stand is so friendly-I was over in Reykjavik in March and had to ask him directions to the Sódoma Reykjavík.

I had a hotdog from the hotdog stand near to the tourist office.

So lucky you live in Iceland haha

  • i love mussels

  • i love iceland, you know that pilsur (hot dog) stand he was at ive been there, also president bill clinten went there oh and there is kulaport (i think that is how you spell it) right around the corner:) and i love the blue lagoon but if you go to far it burns its SO hot! and i am 12 lol

  • oh shit he already said that bill was there sorry

  • foods ain´t so bad in iceland, just the rotten shark and the Þorramatur

  • everything else is werywerywerygood

  • It's awful isn't it! I hated it! But if you think that is bad, try the rotten eggs they have - left in the warm soils for up to 3 years, then mashed. Absolutely disgusting.

  • Rotten eggs? I've never heard of that, can you explain?

  • basically they leave eggs in warm, sulfurous soil for about 18 months - 36 months, quite literally. After this, they mash the eggs to a paste, and spread it on thin dark bread. Apparently one of the best delicacies in Iceland, but in my opinion - DISGUSTING.

  • huh... I have never ever heard of that, and i've lived in iceland my entire life(icelandic)

  • @alexmaccoll i have never heard of that ?

  • @alexmaccoll they do that in greenland, not iceland

  • @alexmaccoll

Yeaaahh.... that's not Icelandic, I think I would have heard of it, lol

  • @DavySigfusson I visit iceland once a month on business, and on a recent social visit, a tour guide for the very well respected air iceland tour company, who himself has lived in Akureyri for 62 years told me this. Your beef is with him my friend!

  • @DavySigfusson

... Yeah... I asked a friend of mine, and it this is apparently only done in the north, north-east Iceland and the dark bread is most likely rúgbrauð.(rye bread : black bread)

I've never heard of this custom because I've lived most of my life on the western shore.(Snæfellsnes)

  • @alexmaccoll that abselutely makes no sence at all

  • @sciencfiction I visit iceland once a month on business, and on a recent social visit, a tour guide for the very well respected air iceland tour company, who himself has lived in Akureyri for 62 years told me this. Your beef is with him my friend!
