hey i'm targeting flathead off a pier, gets about 3-4m deep at high tide. i have a variety of squidgies, mainly 80mm wrigglers in bloodworm, but got some bigger shads too. just wondering what weight/hook size jig head would suit if it was a night that wasn't calm but not too rough either. thanks
hey i like to use squidgys and last week i caught my first fish on soft plastics a 58cm flathead along with acouple mor around the 47cm mark :) i was stoked i was using 6 pound line 4pound leader with a 80mm squidgy wriggler in bloodowrm rigged on a 1/2th jihead head , no that day i lost a really big fish , soo i steped up my leader size to 8 pound and changed my lure size from an 80mm squidgy wriggler to a 100mm sswriggler , what would be an i deal jigead weight fro waters about 1 and a 1/2m
@eddyfishen i was wondering the exact same question as you coz i wana try fishing the lake without frozen baits - did u get an answer culd u tell me or watever plz
i would have to agree with you greatly! i fish in portphillip bay and there havent been many around lately at all... so i tried gulp nuclear nuclear on a 4.7 gram jig head and ive caught 30 flathead all over 35 cm and 2 lovely snapper around 53 cm off my kayak.. for all those who go against gulp and soft plastics, your buggered in the head.
@teamgippy09 Hey teamgippy, different anglers would make different suggestions but I will tell you what works for me. If I am fishing open, clean country I fish 6lb Microfuse or Fireline Crystal & 15lb Vanish leader, 6lb Vanish if just chasing bream. In heavy cover or chance of larger fish I will step up to 10lb braid and 15-20lb Vanish Leader, 10lb if just chasing bream. Hope this helps you land a few and if you aren't getting bites try slowing down or fishing lighter...Cheers, Justin

shut up dude .. pump some nippers and go fishing ...don't need to waste money and time on the plastic shit.. all my best fish have been caught on bait that i catch for myself at no cost .. and yes I have spent heaps of time using plastics too... not time wasted but now i know plastics area waste of my money,... and a good money maker for bCF and other companies

Dude I catch heaps of fish.. I go out several times a week and I usually get more than some I know that swear by plastics and only use them. Get good flatties on livies more often than plastic.. just my opinion... some people love em..I don't
my catch rate has gone way up since i started to use plastics and vibes and i was a pretty good bait fisherman i would like to think. i have been fishing the same spoys and i hardley ever dont bring a feed home these days using lures covers so much more ground
good for you dude .. if you like to use them and your happy thats what its all about... people seem to be missing the point of the original comment though. this vid is annoying and doesn't really share any info on plastics anyway . hope you keep catching a feed
To be honest mate, I'm having a lot more success on plastics than I am with live bait. Yes, going out and pumping yabbies is cheaper, but plastics are in no way a waste of money.
They're only a waste of money when you don't know how to use them properly, obviously something you seen to have been having trouble with. Insecurities suck, right?
I seem to have touched a bit of a nerve with my fellow anglers with my comment hey! I don't really understand why your implying that I'm insecure though?? maybe your telling a few porky pies by saying youv'e got 94% catch rate,,,,,,, who's insecure? 94 % of what? if you get one fish you could say you got 100% of one fish. I don't get it...I don't just use yabbies either, I use a variety of dead or live bait but mostly live, it works well for me. good fishing to you all anyhow
You've got to be kidding. Berkley Gulp are easily the best soft plastics on the market. I've got like a 94% catch rate using them, which is far more than I've ever got with bait (live and dead) or any other lures (soft plastics and hard bodies.)
Berkley Vanish is trash it is thick as buggery, has poor knot strength and sometimes snaps for no reason. Fpr a Fluorocarbon leader use Fluoroflex or Platypus Stealth.
Matt Fraser stole most of his jig head designs from TT Lures, an Australian company and now Berkley Nitro jig heads are sold everywhere and TT Lures are not.
