Well, the concept is brilliant, but it has lots of bugs in my opinion. 1) the speakers also need to replaced as the OEM ones cannot really handle the power from an external amp. 2) the signal at the amp input has been already amplified by the head unit's (low quality) amp, so overall it remains the same crap. 3) if somebody would just tuck the amp under the carpet in my car without fixing it properly, I'd possibly slap him...

So even if the first method is more crude, I'd rather go for that.

Power mismatch to speakers will eventualy damage the standard OE speakers epecialy at high volume levels.
