I'm straight up bawling. That is exactly how I feel "down" days. Those days where nothing is really wrong, but you look in the mirror and think of beautiful girls like 2ne1 and hate what you see. But I'm willing to bet even the prettiest of girls look in the mirror sometimes and see themselves as ugly too. And you don't want anyone to comfort you and think people are lying when they call you pretty... This song just captures that entire feeling beautifully.
I think people who write comments like "I wish I was this ugly" etc. don't really get the meaning of the song and the word UGLY in it. It's not just about not having a "pretty face" , it's about being ugly in all aspects, being outsider, not fit in society and in it's concepts.
Also so many people think that 2NE1 IS ugly and KARA or SNSD're pretty, 'cause they have very feminine and cute look. Do you really think that this kind of thoughts never crossed 2NE1's minds and didn't hurt them?

They don't have the typical Korean looks, they are like outsiders in a way, as they can't be cute and they sing songs that kick ass. This song touches me because I use to think the exact same way. Whenever someone told me I looked pretty I told them no I don't because I honestly believed it. I thought they were just trying to make me feel good but I hate being lied to so I wanted them to stop by letting them know I know I wasn't pretty. I didn't need their pity. The line that speaks to me the most is "don't lie to my face and tell me I'm pretty" because I thought the same way, but they weren't lying. It matters most what you think about you. YOU have to believe you're pretty, if you don't, when people tell you otherwise it might not get through to you.

This song was a HUGE let down for me. If you ignore the lyrics, the music is intoxicating and makes you want to get up and dance. Down Side!! As soon as you focus on the lyrics, all of the happiness goes away once you discover that the entire song is about a girl thinking she's ugly. I'm so sad :(

what i love about 2ne1 is that even when translated into english, their songs make sense. some other groups have fluent english speakers, but they don't even make full use of it. other idol groups have songs with a catchy beat but a lot of the times, the words don't match the song or even the title of the song. 2ne1 is able to put meaning into their songs and still make it catchy. that's why i love them. 2ne1, fighting!

Listening to this kind of helps to know that others might feel a similar way, that i'm not alone. And there's a saying that when you're sad, you should listen to a sad song to feel the opposite way (?). So i'm really not sure what to do about this, as i can't go and excercise/put makeup on my personality.

I think it's sort of a criticism on the whole KPop, and music industry in general. I mean, idols/artists are portrayed so perfectly, like gods and goddesses, so 'separated' with us 'mere mortals'. This song was a HUGE let down for me. If you ignore the lyrics, the music is intoxicating and makes you want to get up and dance. Down Side!! As soon as you focus on the lyrics, all of the happiness goes away once you discover that the entire song is about a girl thinking she's ugly. I'm so sad :(

When my mom saw the video and the actual lyrics this is what she said.

what i love about 2ne1 is that even when translated into english, their songs make sense. some other groups have fluent english speakers, but they don't even make full use of it. other idol groups have songs with a catchy beat but a lot of the times, the words don't match the song or even the title of the song. 2ne1 is able to put meaning into their songs and still make it catchy. that's why i love them. 2ne1, fighting!

i like this song but it's really not healthy to keep listening to it cos i feel it induces negativity. If u keep singing,"I think i'm ugly"...well, how are u gonna feel pretty? Self-fulfilling prophecy. Maybe i just cannot empathise. Go out there and learn how to apply make up and exercise. Good skin, health and a positive mindset is 80% of the journey towards beauty, not sitting/snacking in front of yr screen and feeling sorry for yrself.

@iloveoppataeyang ...but with this song, i can relate to it more of an inner beauty; all the people around me, my friends, are wonderful, lovable personalities, but i, as a person, am ugly. Listening to this kind of helps to know that others might feel a similar way, that i'm not alone. And there's a saying that when you're sad, you should listen to a sad song to feel the opposite way (?). So i'm really not sure what to do about this, as i can't go and excercise/put makeup on my personality.
