  • Saw them in Boston 1986 in tiny basement club in Cambridge... Mighty Bosstones opened up (Bosstones went to my high school - CRLS) They blew the Bosstones doors off times 1000000!!!!! It was the most insanely crazy good show I have ever seen until I saw them again at UCONN a couple years later.. I met them at a party after the show and actually got to jam with them - I played the drums - they said I was "a rockin drummer"!!!! Never forget that!

  • @Heyemeyohsts

    That's high praise

  • this is ska mixed with something else. a lot of their music is like that

80's funk - the ghosts of 70's funk. bust the category, break the mold, these songs will be played on interstellar spaceships 800 years from now.

  • I loved watchin' this video & listenin' to this song in '86, when I was 16.

  • i just seen an ad that said who needs instruments when u can just sing and i thought i heard some dumb shit in my life that tops it all

  • And btw the coregraphy at 1:50 is awesome! :P

  • They just have invented music again

  • Great Song!

  • I was a huge fan of Fishbone and for the life of me don't remember seeing this video in 1986?!? lol strange.,....BUT LOVE IT!!

  • Loved it. I wished I had taken them seriously back in the day.

  • I love the breakdown at the end, those guys kick ass!

  • Love this CD. Got me thru some hard times - dancing!

  • They never got huge commercial success but every musician knows and respects them. by the way, this video does not stand the test of time. The song does however. to this day, still no one sounds like fishbone.

  • real nice vid, great performance by the Hawaiian dancers, what professionals they were! Like their interplay with the band too, they are good sports about it. Must have been a fun video shoot for the fellas and the ladies.

  • Wow...

I was a freshman in high school when this came out.

  • let me dance with the lady's

  • i love this song that piano part remind me battle song of a game of super nintendo amazing

  • What Album can I buy this on? Is it only on the compilation album as .Mp3? This should have been on the first album :( I really like this song a lot!

  • @UptownGirl27

This was originally released on the album "In Your Face". It was the opening track, IIRC. I did some checking, and it can also be found on The Essential Fishbone and Fishbone 101.

BTW, if you've not listened to it before, In Your Face is a great early FB album. Quite a bit different than the "Swim" era stuff, but great.

  • @UptownGirl27 Damn bro... just connect a RadioShack stereo 1/8 plug infrom your cum-put-er, and out to your recorder of choice, anitsyoursallyours!!!

  • @UptownGirl27 its called "in your face". the whole record (cd) is great

  • Vevo we are so proud that we get to have most of the videos up on youtube... but you would think that a fucking Greedy ass mother fuckers would post a Higher Quality Video... 360P fuck my camera videophone does better than that. Were is the 480P or higher quality videos?

  • This is my personal favourite FISHBONE track/song/video!

  • 1986!!!...Nineteen-Eighty-Six!!

This is still ahead of our time...What a f****ing joke they aren't one of the biggest bands in the world....

Once again this was 1986 people, they've been cooler than you for 25 years

    ***jcmcneilband***

  • @CoachG1000

Right On!!! I saw them in in Houston 1986 at the Fresh Fest performing this jam..

  • I had no idea until now that there was a video to this song. The music sure brings back some high school memories.

  • seriously cool...i remember first hearing them in 1989...ohh it iwas everything that was cool....i bought their album when i was kicked out of school for drinking!!!! lol!! oh man...their humor and comedy is so honest...so real....my music is so different..but i list them as a major influence....god blss FISHBONE! long may they play!!!! and just to reply to others....rhcp were performing some backing stuff if i remember correctly on freddies dead...it is on the album sleeve.

  • 1986 huh? Awesome

  • literally my favorite ending to any song ever made.

  • How many other people find the songs under the "It's Not About the Money" utter ironic horseshit? Avril Lavigne? Give me a fucking break.

  • trust me out of all fishbone songs, this is the one that sticks with you! :D

  • Yeah they mix funk/rock/jazz very nicely. I saw them in concert in Houston along with the likes of the Gap Band, Maze, and other top black groups back around 1986 and they performed this song. That was the first time I had heard of them and have luved them ever since.

  • @Dallas8709 youtube search "Celebrate Fishbone! Anniversary Video: 25 Years and Still Redhot!" and you'll see that they inspired allll kinda people!

  • ROFL!!! (bursts out laughing) LMFAO!!!

  • nice hat Norwood :)

  • RHCP was still borrowing their Bass Magic 16 years later!

  • @MrSpango lol didnt know rhcp was really into fishbone, rhcp just really jazzy when it come's to the bass

  • this is still phresh!

  • This band is unbeliveably diverse!

I mean, you just CAN'T put this into any category.

This song has elements of ska, funk, soul, rock, metal, new wave and even... latin music?

    Simply amazes me.

  • @RATMfan92 Diverse, yes. The thing is they did it so well.....so many other bands try to blend styles and it comes out all wrong, just a mash of styles where maybe one style comes out stronger than the others or sounds all odd or something. Maybe I'm not explaining it right..lol. Fishbone were different, but damn good different. My fave bands of all time are classic rock bands such as Van Halen, Scorpions, Aerosmith etc..and certain pop/rock acts of the 80s..but yet I love stuff like Fishbone!

  • @RATMfan92

this is .... "kid creole and the cocopunk "style ;-)

  • I have loved this band since I was a 13 yr old drunk and my mom made me spend the night by my myself & Party at Ground Zero came on & changed my life...I went out and bought the 12' inch that same weekend....I also looked up the Chilli Peppers that weekend because they were played on the same show...but I I didn't like them then

  • great song. great group.

  • Stand corrected...Clinton didn't produce this group...

  • This jam came out back in the late 80's. I had this cassette. They were great but I didn't hear from them for a while after that. Fantastic band!!!

  • yay....................

  • 3 funky

  • I saw them in Montana in 1986. Angelo Moore was dancing next to me during the opening band. He seemed like he was really trying to appreciate what the opening band was trying to do - but not really succeeding. He was trying to grove. I said hello to him and we talked for a second. Then, when he opened, I saw a different Angelo on stage -- a really great singer. They're a great band. Sick talent. I saw them again in the 1990s.

  • i dont care what anyone says fishbone is one of the greatest bands in music history and one of the best soundidng bands when they play live

  • FISHBONE REUNION CAMPAIGN IS UNDERWAY...REPOST EVERYWHERE!

  • this is one of the most uniques band to ever exist

and man... check that bassline!!!, nobody will be that bad ass ever again

  • i dont see how anyone who likes old school chili peppers wouldnt like fishbone and vice versa

people just wanna be iconoclastic and say rhcp suck or sold out cuz they were the more succesful band in their time

both are amazing artists and they have a great mutual respect for each other as should anyone who is a fan of the scene these bands came up in

  • @gc1023 Imo both styles are quite distinct. However I do love both. I dont remember anyone saying the Chilis sold out, but then again I never listen to Chili material written after Blood Sugar Sex Magic (One of the best albums of all time imo) The older Chili albums are so much better, its not even close.

  • VEVO, you fucking SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is how more music videos should be.

Hula babes and a lot of crazy dances/movements to the beat.

  • what a weird video. hahaahaa

  • the BASS at 2:19 is AMAZING!!!! one of my favorite songs of all time!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • How can anyone say that this music video is lame? It's simple and awesome. Blah.

  • the most underrated and immitated band of all time

  • Fishbone: So much better than the RHCP, only more opinionated and they DIDN'T write a hit and decide they should just write more tripe just like it.

  • @prgvidiot youre a fucking dumbass, they cant compete with the peppers.

  • @RogerRabbit94 whatever-- you're young ,there's time to learn not only music appreciation, but how to express yourself without using profanity.

  • @prgvidiot damn dude its the internet, profanity is the american way.

  • @RogerRabbit94 Nonsense. Fishbone is ten times the band RHCP is.

  • @RogerRabbit94

You are grossly WRONG and MISINFORMED.

  • @RogerRabbit94 Eat a dick up til ya hiccup.

  • wacky music videos are always the best

  • i know this is an odd and cheesy video, but song is pretty cool!

  • way better song writers than the peppers, this still sounds tight today but when i hear old peppers it sounds old and tired except for a few cuts.... i really loved the sound of this cd and wish FB would have rocked this sound more, the mix of r-n-b with rock and ska with a bit of punk, after this they went into some metal sound which turned me and a lot of folks off. in you face was the shizzle and the earlier stuff too.

  • Norwood FTW!

  • If you cant get with this song, you cant get with anything quality...just the bass line alone has more character than most music these days...Fishbone should have been right there with the peppers...ask them, they'll would say the same! Awesome creativity and musicianship!! I'll always love me some Fishbone!! I was fortunate to have one of my bands play with them @ the Galaxy in OC, Cal. They rocked it!! Cool cats too! Not stuck up fools like most get when they get some pub...Rock on guys!!!

  • @xandorian

what do you mean "could have been there w/ the peppers"? fuck the peppers

  • @trufiend138

I saw fishbone and the chili peppers play together at the Cameo Theater in Miami in 87 or 88. The cameo was known as a punk club and there were lots of skinheads and punk kids there. Afterwards all the dumb skinhead kids said they couldn't get into the Chili Peppers, but they LOVED fishbone. I've never met anyone who saw fishbone and didn't like it.

  • @xandorian That's right!!! I think George Clinton produced this group.

  • @xandorian - preaching to the choir, man, we all know Norwood is the man!

  • @xandorian I met them back in 1990 and Angelo was a "stuck up fool" back then. I saw them last year (opening for English Beat) and he was FINALLY not a "stuck up fool" then. What a difference a decade makes!

I've always thought Angelo was the hottest, sexiest, coolest guy ever and he finally delivered last year. I'm so glad I stuck with them!
