Khrushchev's reforms were necessary. I am not anti-Soviet but I don't see how recognising the positive develops of the USSR transforms into support for Stalin. Khrushchev relaxed civil society and let people breathe. It was exactly what was needed. Mao was just another Stalin, and whilst the split was very bad for the USSR, any continuing alliance could (and should) only have been a marriage of convenience. Mao / CPC had *nothing* to contribute ideologically at the time, even less so now.
The China-USSR split was a fatal one, it was lack of unity that either brought down or corrupted the socialist regimes of Eurasia and we cannot afford to make the same mistake again.
