I done my step9, 2 years ago,How can you teach an Alcoholic to drink like a man? If you have the answer im sure a million Alcoholics would love to go for a few drinks with you.Its not one glass see what happens, Its one glass that sets of a compulsion to drink more, Your perception of Alcoholism as a psychological condition would be argued against by Alkies worlwide. People become physically dependant on alcohol and sudden withrawal can lead to seizures and death. Thats not psychological is it?
I wouldn't teach an "alcoholic" who believes in one drink, drunk and die. Thats mystical religion. Nevertheless i see the benefit of "don't drink the first glass/24h" sobering up. Its a step zero.
As an Alcoholic if i take a drink i cant stop. Thats called Alcoholism! I go to AA for support from people who have the same problem. I wouldn't wish Alcoholism on my worst enemy. it's not something to be taken lightly due to the millions who have died and are dying from the disease. Liver failure,Heart failure during the DT's (do you know what DT'S are?) choking own their own vomit or being involved in fatal accidents. Alcoholism,it's a right laugh.
"Kicking everybody's head" you should have had a lot of talk with people (step9). No one ever told you how to drink like a man?
Non-alcoholics most often stop (set a limit) before they start. Its NOT drink one glas, see what happens, one more and see and so on...
Like eating one banana you don't relapse with one drink. Its pure psychological. Drink 2 or 3 for about a DUI level 0.07 BAT and no allergic reaction.
We have concluded to publish an anonymous volume setting forth the problem as we see it. We shall bring to the task our combined experience and knowledge. This should suggest a useful program for anyone concerned with a drinking problem.
I have never been asked to meditate in a meeting. I would rather be in an AA meeting as opposed to getting pissed up and killing someone drink driving or kicking someone's head in during a blackout (the latter i did on many an occasion)Dont mess around with a killer disease you know nothing about!
Thanks for sending this to me, knucklehead. Another good one. I know the judges are all drunks. And I think it's stupid to order people to go to AA. If you don't want to go, it ain't gonna work. At least it didn't for me. I tried every possible way around it until I finally wanted to go. I spend around 20 years getting there and screwed up a lot of people's lives on the way.
Using the AA GSO statistics, and including the program dropouts, the success rate of AA, as a whole "...the total averages of sobriety for the total AA membership become 3.7% for one year [of sobriety], and 2.5% over five years." (Kolenda, 2003, Golden Text Publishing Company)
Repeated studies have shown that the average person, who could be diagnosed with a substance abuse problem, will discontinue use on their own 20-30% of the time.
I bet a lot of the negative comments about any AA are from people who were court ordered to go to AA, maybe? Kind of like some of them devote their lives to bashing AA. Anyway, I thought this was funny and creative even if it is a knock on the meetings.
Hey Numbnuts. 12 stepp is a good old guy, doing his thing, posting his dead buddies' vids on YouTube. He doesn't bother anybody, and I'll tell you, if you take the time, some of the videos are good. His buddy was a "higher power" guy and believed AA was divinely inspired. He makes a pretty good case too, even if you disagree.
the video is good in as much as it removes AA arrogance that all sober alkies to be aware of in the ego deflation process which I think is the root of AA success...I am sober five years now and see the world in serenity...
My sponsor ass raped me during my fifth step. He told me that it was just a bit of horse play and a natural part of the surrender process, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. He said that if I broke the confidentiality of our sponsor/sponsee relationship he would sack me and tell the police about that time I shoplifted a Mars Bar when I was 16. I think he was high on meth when he gave me that dicky-back-ride. Should I question his authority or would that just be acting out on self will?
checkers would better portray people at an AA meeting. One of the tenents adopted by many successful recovering individuals is to be an ordinary, generic, "nothing special", not unique person. There should be no Kings/Queens in AA meetings. Like Jesus washing the disciples feet, the leaders wisely serve.
I haven't ever heard that anywhere in AA - the people I have got to know who do not drink anymore are waaaaaaaay more interesting than people in bars at the end of the night.
You'd probably be surprised.
I know I was. I was expecting all the sort of dross that people have put on here today - thankfully, that is all it is.
Don't impersonate or pretend to be someone else, dear! It is dishonest and not on the Program. Now read lovely Step 10 on page 84 of the marvellous Big Book! And don't argue, dear! We must work our program, or we will drink again. Book says so, dear!
Ha,I like this A.A. is bullshit,and i've ben sober a while.

Maybe you try some abstinent drinking to learn not to blackout.
