That IS Gary Driscoll on the first Rainbow album, "Ritchie Blackmore`s Rainbow". Basicially Elf w/ Blackmore on guitar; great album. Probably my favorite one! Used to have Elf`s "Carolina Ball" (is that right?) on vinal.
Gary Driscoll - drums It was released in 1972.Dio at the time still went by his birth name Ronald Padavona.
After this album, Steve Edwards replaced David Feinstein on guitar, and Craig Gruber replaced Ronnie James Dio on bass. However, Ronnie James Dio continued to sing lead vocals for the band.
Finally located a copy of ELF on vinyl, and recently saw a sealed copy sell for quite a bit, are becoming hard to find these.
Fantastic posting, and song, many thanks for giving ELF a home on Youtube!
Also,has anyone ever heard of any video or film existing for any of ELF's shows,studio, etc? As have been researching related classic rock tv and film performances and material of late.
sure is man, i was impressed too when i first read that he played bass before his Rainbow era... i put my vote in for dio as the best rocker still performing today... look at the body of work he has done.. from the late 50's (ronnie and the red caps, lost prophets etc) through to the elves/elf/rainbow/black sabbath/ DIO/sabbath again , now of course with heaven and hell... absolutely untouchable
@moparmav omigawd i did not know all that! the 50's??? I know of the Sabbath years and only just found out about Elf. but wow... so MUCH before that! he is absolutely missed, and was a class act.
wth I was listening to Merle Haggard how did I wind up here...um I kinda like it though. Hell yea I like it {[exhale]}

Certainly does sound a lot like the first Rainbow album... The drummer has a very distinctive style.
