Nope, but it can get get you a hip flexor injury (psoas, iliopsoas) even if you do it right. After an injury you can hadly do a normal squat, let alone a pistol one.
awsome workouts on here man! im a huge fan of bruce lee and i recently went ot china to train with shaolin....and you are totally right about P.E. teachers from school or martial arts "instructors" who say "u shouldnt do this or this.....if it hurts its wrong" ITS SHOULD HURT!! haha
when my splits stretching hurt my master from shaolin pushed me more! and when it hurt like real hell then....he would stand on me! thats training!! :P
When you are 40, you will feel every single injury you acquired in the past. Bruce lee was 33 when he died. He almost reached his physical peak. After 35 everything starts to decline and if you did idiotic things in the past, they will hinder your performance in the future.
I don't care if a dozen shaolin masters think differently. In my line of sports any injury spells death, so listening to a deranged master is not an option. I accept masters in bed, not in sports :)
@tanzlovar bruce lee was 32, and well i think he was better after his massive back injury than he was before it because of determination.
and first hand account of a 70 year old shaolin monk performing infront of me...i can see he seemed as agile as an average 21 year old over here in the western world.
so believe what you want to....u feel injuries maybe, but doesnt mean pain has to stop u performing
but if you do squats you can get short legs, you know what i mean like if you do it much times you can't kick high or sidekicks like how bruce lee did. Can you also get short legs in this workout what you do?
Just subscribed, I love what you said in here, trying new things, testing your body, pushing yourself, having a uniqe training method, theres no one way to do anything, enjoying the vids!
@FeelRapp Yep, I am speak the truth! so never believe those motherf***er gym teacher out there, all they want is your money! never give a damn to them! XD
@PrataManiac (imo) only if you don't jump higher than what Xiao is showing and don't do it for too long either. I tried this very exercise a few years ago, only jumping quite high whilst within the movement in one session (I felt fine doing it but the following morning I couldn't walk properly for days) then again, learn to crawl before you can sprint. Good exercise though 谢谢 :)
Thank you XiaoYi (from Poland, and from me)
You are really inspiring :)

pistol squats have to be one of my favorite leg exercises.
i love doing them on low lying rails, that kills, really hard to balance and works your stabilizers like hell.
the jumping variation your doing is a little too much for my bad knees.
but as a Traceour ( parkour practitioner ) i say its a great exercise!
