The Metallion was the name of the ship in Gradius 2 MSX. To use it, you must use the over-powered Type-E weapon layout. This music wasn't heard in the original Gradius Rbirth, probably it is heard in the updated release.

Thanks for refreshing my memory. I should know this since i have the game :). Anyway, i just downloaded the updated version of the game from the wii shop channel and you are right. Under the new updated version, all the extra music can be heard if you use the Type D and E metallion ships. Hearing "A Journey to the Star" during the fly sequences is so awesome!!. Oh, there is also a small extra feature before you begin the last stage of the game (it is during the fly intermission).
