i has the same issue, thought it was YLOD at first but then noticed it was turning on for about 10 seconds then shutting down from green light straight to flashing red. Opened it up, swapped power supply first from another PS3 but that didnt work.

Then opened it down to the mother board and could see the thermal paste was cooked!! Applied Diamond IC7 cleared all the dust out and now works good as new

I managed to fix mine over the last few days. All you need is a USB thumb drive.

1) Get the second lv2diag file that is used for the 3.41 modified downgrade.

2) Put this on the root of a FAT32 thumb drive, insert it in the right-most USB slot

3) Power the PS3 on and switch on.

4) It will read the USB and then power off.

5) You should then be able to access the recovery menu.

Worked for me :)

i got my black ops out of the console by holding down the power button and the disc eject button then turn the switch off then back on while still holding the buttons, then the disc came out! still dont how to fix the ps3 :( looks like im gonna have to get a new one!

Well u gotta hold ur power button switches on keep holding so it switches off then you keep holding it till u hear two beeps then a menu should come up u pick the third one this might delete some of your saved games and map packs you can redownload then it should work fine or gt a new fan or ps3

@vivaelchecarajo Now about your game being stucked in the videogame. Well, there is one way people around has managed to remove it from the ps3 not having to rip it apart. You should turn off the console from behind (In that 1 - 0 button) and while you do it, you should keep pressing the lid opener button, and then, you press the button ( 1 - 0 behind the videogame) while pressing the lid opener button at the same time. That is how many had removed its disks from the disk tray. Good Luck.

@OmurIlguy It remains saying that is hot, but the damage to the Graphic Processor is already done, so, due to the dryness in the thermal paste around the part, it will not get cooler any longer, as hard as you wait, so, unable to avoid any further damage in the Processor System. If there is any hope to fix this, it should start by changing the Thernal Paste. If not, a brick you have.

@alcatonelover You must try the way of turning on the console from behind, and then, press the open disc tray button a lot of times, that maybe will open the disc tray, depending on how damaged the console is, it can work or not, but it worth giving a try. =)

you need: usb pendrive here formatted in fat32 formatted ps3 hdd (internal) just in case the hdd data corrupted (optional) Lv2Diag.self file 1 --save on usb fat32 Modified 3.41 firmware--save on usb fat32 wait a couple of minutes...after console back to standby mode delete all file in usb fat32 Lv2Diag.self file 2---then save this in fat32 run the ps3 again wait until it back in standby mode unplug usb run the ps3.... download OFW 3.41 then update. done!

All you need to do is download firmware 3.50 pup and put it into the root of your usb stick. Then download a file called 'Lv2Diag.self' and place that too in the root of your usb. So you will have two file on your usb 3.50 update pup and Lv2Diag.self.

1.Switch off your ps3 & unplug the cable

2. put the cable back and insert your usb stick in the usb port nearest to the eject button.

3. switch on your ps3, after 10 secs it will switch off.

4.Remove usb and switch ps3 on.

5.Update ps3 with 3.50

I had this happen to mine a week ago, I have a slim version, I was told by a friend of mine who works for the Playstaion 3 repair facility that its basiclly the PS3's version of the ring of death, although some systems will start up after a few frustrating attempts, he told me to send it in and since it was under warrenty it would be covered 100% otherwise it would cost at least 150.00. Yeah nothing was wrong with it at all. i didnt know what happend to it the night before because my brothers friends were over and he took it with him to his friends house. and apparently when your hooking ur ps3 back up again your suppose to like hold the power button or something like that. but i have no clue i wasnt there when my bro did it. u need a usb stick and download the new update 3.15 and put it on your usb stick. (usb - folder called PS3 and inside the ps3 folder make another called UPDATE. put the update file in here. turn on ur ps3 and go into the recover settings then go down to number 6 do system update. your ps3 will find the update on your usb then when its finished doing it your ps3 will restart and it will be working again.

Got two consoles doing the same. Is a odd one and is almost 100% certain its related to either a blown cap or resistor if not dislodged solder ball. One of the systems even has melted Nikon chips. Have not attempted a repair yet but there is no EASY fix. a reflow with flux is worth a try but its probably one of the other chips or smaller components needing replacement. Will pull out the multimeter sometime and investigate it further within the next week or so.

I've got the same problem. The EXACT same symptoms. I've tried all the A/V resets and tried four different hard drives (1 x PS3 40gig, 2 x PS3 60 gig, and the 160gig from my laptop). I've taken the PS3 apart, cleaned out the dust, and replaced the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. I haven't reflowed the board because this is no YLOD. I don't know what to do next. I didn't really want to send it to Sony because it's the second PS3 to go on me and i didn't really want to give them any more money.

I chose the system update option, put the update data from the internet on a flash stick and plugged it into the usb port. Then it asked me to format the drive again, I said yes. It did it's thing for a while, then restarted. It has worked for me ever since. I think it was just something got corrupt on the hard drive. You will lose all your stuff on your hard drive, but at least your system will work again. Worked for me!

Hi, I had this exact problem. How I fixed it was by removing the hard drive and putting it into a friends PS3 and formatting it. Then put the hard drive back into your PS3. It will still turn itself off after a few sec's, so what you need to do is hold your finger on the power button for ten sec's,(might take a few tries) you'll hear the beep when it turns on then a pause and two consecutive beeps. Plug a controller into the usb and press the PS button. You should see a screen with a few options

If you turn it on without your HDD installed does the home screen atleast come on? if yes, then my guess is that it is your HDD and you should just get a new one. And find a program called HP USB disk storage format tool. Free download somewhere. and be sure to do a full format... Not a quick one

It's possible your PS3 HDD is corrupt. Take it out and do a full format using a laptop or pc. If you need any kind of software I think I might be able to help you.

Will it still shut down that fast if no HDD is inside? I believe it may be that your RSX chip had gotten too hot and as a precautionary measure popped off the motherboard. Please don't quote me on that though but if that's the case your best bet would be to send it to Sony for $150 or use the guy that does those repairs for about $80 on eBay. But try the HDD not being in first. Also look for a format sofwate called simply Fat32format. Make sure you do a FULL FORMAT too. Not a quick one
