Doug is wrong, I was never really into the Muppets but then I saw the first trailer and I was interested enough to watch the movie. Now it's my favorite movie of all time!
@LordManda2 1. Doug's reviews come with the Bum reviews
2. im saying he is beginning to do Bum reviews less and less often, just like spill.com with their movie reviews. i posted this comment in the hopes of getting thumbs up from spill fans and TGWTG fans alike
@rocketdave i love how they sort of blended the fun, crazy Daffy with the selfish, depressing Daffy to create a deranged sociopath Daffy. it really makes the character more enjoyable and believable :)
I was so happy that this movie was so great. I am a huge fan of the muppets (Swedish Chef definately my fav) and I was glad this didn't destory them for me.
cause jim henson's children in 2005 sold out their father fraggle's are only one's still owned by jim henson company. disney now own muppets not counting fraggles and sesame street ythe later is own by sesame's work shop
I saw Kermit doing stand up with Bob Saget (or however you spell his last name) on Disney Cruise Line a couple years ago. Bob was being weird with his adult humor, and then the power went out and Kermit just saved the show with "Wow, your jokes stink so much the lights left."
@AnimeAmericaPodcast I saw that movie long ago and I remember liking it, especially the more modernized twist to it. Also, that was Ashanti playing Dorothy.
Wait...I knew that the Bum was an act...but NC is one to? I always knew that he exagerated and acted things out (like the guns, and the I want to kill this movie), but I thought it was basically Doug. But now I find that Doug does reviews as just himsel and not NC?
He likes Sarah Silverman, this god awful movie, and the new looney toons? What the hell?! I loved the muppets tv show and some of the movies but this was utter crap!
Muppets in Space is okay, its not terrible, but considering that the Muppet franchise was going down a different angle to appeal to a new generation( borrowing on Muppets Tonight and so forth) it was definately different to the other muppet movies. Its the least popular, but was'nt as bad as it was made out to be.
I hope now that they will put up old episodes of the muppets for us, or hell remake the old show with modern guest stars, maybe shoot Justin Bieber out of a canon
I loved all the little things that tickled my fanboy bone. Like seeing Uncle Deadly appear after a 30 year absence, and having a pretty good sized role! And Rowlf talking again, how awesome was that?
both in moulin rouge and the muppets cover Smells Like Teen Spirit by nirvana and he ignores them in both movies. hmmm something u wanna say about that, doug
Muppet Christmas Carol was my personal favourite Muppet film, it kept the charm of the original story and added enough Muppets charm to make it stand out.
I agree with him about the Amy Adams and Miss Piggy song, but the Chris Cooper money rap I thought was funny as hell because it came right the hell out of nowhere and... It's Chris Cooper rapping. It's about as random and ridiculous as it sounds.
the money rap actually DID have a purpose. . .right after he does it Kermit says "you could have just said no" and i think thats a joke in itself that makes fun of pointless songs XD
God, I've always loved the Muppets and still do but this movie just didn't work imo. It had WAY too many songs, Walter was beyond un-necessary, and just the general constant cheesiness of it all made me so mad cause that's not what the Muppets are about, the Muppets are 4 adults too and this movie just reminded me of how Alvin & The Chipmunks has become with the whole make only appeal to the new generation of little kids and not the ppl that grew up with it
I really like most of your critiques, but I'm not sure what you mean by "The Muppets got too adult." The Muppets have ALWAYS been adult and have had rather grown up jokes. The first movie Rowlf talks about drinking a beer, there were many adult themes in the television series, and the characters in their own way where rather adult.
I saw this movie with my while family ...(which never happens) and we all really enjoyed it. Gonzo's destruction of his plumbing business was easily my favorite sequence. And I do agree about the ending . It was and I don't think there was a dry eye in the theatre during" the Rainbow connection". . But I still enjoyed it. I tend not to like looking at reviews until after I see a movie. I feel like someone else's opinion shouldn't influence mine. But that's just me. : )- good review
The only thing that ticked me off about this movie is that Rizzo the Rat didn't have any lines. Rizzo has always been one of my favorite Muppets, along with Gonzo, Fozzie, Kermit, Stadler and Waldorf (probably botched that spelling), and the fact that Rizzo didn't have any lines pissed me off. I'm sure he's in one of the musical numbers, but that's about it.
@Bzicnephrilis What'd it matter? It already ripped off A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie in the second half; and the jokes in *that* movie were actually more up to date than what was done this go round.
I know Man or Muppet is supposed to be funny and I don't know if this is just me, but I was actually contemplating the meaning of the phrase, and I think it sounds like an interesting metaphor for when we get older.
They should definitely make a new Muppet Show. I mean, with today being so drastically different than the 70's, and so many celebrity guest stars that can range from Hollywood to Youtube, I can see no wrong.
As far as I'm concerned, The Muppet Movie, A Christmas Carol and Treasure Island can do no wrong. The acting, comedy, music, emotion everything is pretty much pitch perfect. Muppets in Space had its good moments that were few and far between not to mention it solved the mystery of what Gonzo was (an alien, duh). Muppets Wizard of Oz was OK I guess. Nothing spectacular though. I've never seen Caper or Take Manhattan.

Here's why they didn't end The Muppets the way Doug wanted them to end it:
1. It had Jack Black.
2. They'd clearly lose their place but gain enormous popularity amongst many people outside.
Conclusion: IT WOULD'VE RIPPED OFF "BE KIND, REWIND"!!!
