y r there different types of helicopters used by the coast guard , the Dauphins(dolphins) and Jayhawks do the same thing don't they, rescue people using winches

The h-65, Dauphin, is our short range helo, and the Jayhawk is our medium range helo, in short the Jayhawk can go further off shore and stay out longer the Dauphin.

yeah they both serve the same perpose the jayhawk is newer and improved but the dolphin is still the best out there the jayhawk is mostly where the wheather is bad like alaska becasue they rescue 8 people or 12 at a time im gonna be a rescue swimmer in 7 years so

They both have there ups and downs personlay I like the Jayhawk more casue that is what I work on, like I said the big difference is that Jayhawk has a longer range and can go further off shore. Are you a AST or are you gonna be on? Good luck with becoming one if you are not.

i am not a rescue swimmer but i do work with them, after u get out of boot camp u will put ur name on what they call an a school list then do a 4 month airman program at an air station, then goto school and the school is not only physicaly demanding but mentaly tough as well, but i am sure things will change in 7 years.

as far as school goes, i am sure there will always be resuce swimmers in the coast guard and it is good that u know what you want to, just becareful not to over train and hurt yourself. good luck

Screw those Coasties and their HH-65s... Mainly because I didn't know enough about the USCG before going to the Navy for flight school...

What a badass mission/job those guys have.

You don't have to go to the academy, I went the the AIM program. You can do Blue 21 but you have to graduate from a school with 25% minority thanks to affirmative action ;-) their are a few other requirements basically you can just get your privet pilots certificate. The HH65 is much improved now with the -C model. They finally replaced the old LTS-101 engines from the A/B model with Turbo Mecha engines with more power. I was a crewman on them for 6 years before going over to H-60's. The 65 is a fun ride, especially since they can fly single pilot.
