@lucapalan No, there are 3 more airports. Chania, Rethimnon and Sitia. Though they're not very close to Heraklion so, the main airport is Heraklion's.

if im correct that airport does not have ils on both sides of the main runway. both approaches are vor dme. am i right?

12 years ago or so we did a spiral landing in herakilon ,its was in a tristar with brittania airways, oneway ticket for £50 ,my best flight ever! i think the pilot was showing off till the last few meters bumped on the tarmac, even the airstewards looked at each other!

they are using 09 when east winds prevail

there is no published approach for this runway so it is a very good visual approach

it was a nice landing from the other side of the airport its not the normal way they land

but i like this landing more over the port and the city

I tried to do this landing in Athens but they told me to turn the camera off. Landing at Heraklion in the other direction is interesting. You come over the sea & you don't see the land until the plane actually touches down!

I remember flying this approach when I came on holiday in on a boeing 747-200 (Air Atlanta) and I remember nearly pooing myself as we thumped over the town and juddered onto the runway at 140 kts
