  • Did anyone else think she was a dead ringer for Greta Garbo in a few of those pictures? Another actress who hated stardom and turned her back on it as well. I love them both for not selling their souls for money.

  • I LOVE YOU BRIGITTE YOU ARE MY INSPIRATION! THANK`YOU FOR DOES METROPOLIS I SEE YOU DO MOVIE I CRY THANK`YOU !I LOVE YOU ETERNAL IS IN SEEING EVERY SECOND MUSIC`S WONDERFUL BRIGITTE FOREVER!

    Is in seeing every second!

    Te amo!

  • She reminds me Olga Baclanova, at least that kind of mysterious beauty and glamour.

  • I'm not familiar with her, but, its obvious, she was a Real Movie Star too. I enjoyed this. Love looking at the Real Movie STARS.. Wonderful video..

  • Brigitte IS a Legend. I saw lot of her films, and she was really a good, beautiful and talented actress. But never saw a video like this, a real tribute to my favourite actress. From Metropolis to Gold, the best girl I met!

Just thank you for share it! Forever and ever, Brigitte Helm ;)

  • Great video. The music is actually Elgar's "Salut d'Amour", one of my favourites

  • What a classic beauty -- in stark contrast to the hyper-sexualized, augmented things that pass for actresses these days.

  • SHE WAS real legend

  • .

In actual fact, she left Germany with her husband to Ascona CH, when Hitler started to control the German Film Industry for his propaganda.

After the War, she and her husband returned to Munich Germany - while maintaining the home in Ascona.

There is more to this, that is better left untold.

    Danke, for sharing!

  • @intransit2

Yes she died in Ascona, why more to say that is better untold ???

  • Thanks so much for letting me know about the music. This is a great series - I spent over an hour this evening looking at the various tributes. Well done and very enjoyable. Thanks again.

  • Great tribute. Can you say what the music is starting around 3:00?

    Thanks

  • The music is Michael Nyman's 'String Quartet No 2'

  • Hi Basil,

Loved your tribute to Brigitte Helm. For those not familiar with her career two of her greatest films included Crisis and L'Argent. When she is on screen everything else fades away. What an intriguing face in an era "When they had faces". There is a minor error in the tribute. The image at the 40 second point is not Brigitte Helm. It is Betty Bronson in Peter Pan from 1924. Otherwise, great vid.

  • Her beauty was probably the "Nordic ideal" that the Nazis obsessed about in their "art" and cinema. I am SO glad that Helm would have NOTHING of their disgusting regime.

  • She will always be Maria from Metropolis. The beauty who only wants freedom for everyone. Thanks for the vid!!

  • Never heard of her but as usual i enjoyed this tribute. She seemed to be a beautiful woman. It looks like she had many diverse roles.

  • Brigitte Helm did not have a long film career. It lasted probably for less than ten years, and she's known by most people who've ever heard of her as "Maria" in Fritz Lang's epic Metropolis. In that film she takes on a duel role, first of a sympathetic heroine who tries to deliver her downtrodden people, and a cold machine created to destroy its creator's rival. In 1935, Helm left Germany (to Switzerland) to escape Nazi repression, and she never appeared in films again.

  • Thank you basilnelson!!! You did a masterful job, a REAL tribute to such a beautiful LADY and very talented ACTRESS...

    Helm was a STAR!!!

  • Thank you. This was requested by one of my subscribers and I think we were all pleased with the result. This was the first non-Hollywood tribute I have made so I will expand my Channel to include World Cinema subjects.

  • simply the best! i just love it!!

thank you Basil! Brigitte Helm would love this vid ;)

  • Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video!

  • Fantastic tribute to one of the screen's best multiple roles performers. Her roles as the saintly Maria, the Machine-Woman and the Machine-Woman disguised as Maria were flawless.

    Well done on the vid.
