Great video. Thanks for posting. I first saw Tracy in '68 or '69 at my college. As an added treat, Boz Scaggs had split from his band and was hanging with Mother Earth. They played for 3-1/2 hours. Saw Tracy live maybe a dozen times over the next 25 years. Haven't seen her lately, but she never fails to put a chill down my back and tears of joy in my eye. Got to hang with her and the band between shows at a sparsely attended concert in Buffalo in '72. No other voice better, ever. Period.
Tracy & Diane Davidson did some really great duets and would cut heads with each other...at the Exit Inn, Mississippi Whiskers...west end, the rock block...the soda shop....man the memories...
I was hangin' at the Gold Rush after I came back to NashVegas Christmas Eve '69,,, I fell in love with Tracy when she was playin' with Mother Earth out in San Francisco... One of the guys I hung with was Steve Young...who also really dug Tracy...I asked her to marry me one night when we were all "tuned" and she just laughed and said, "don't want to marry me" I'm a real bitch" her x Travis Rivers was there & said "She's tellin' the truth man"...I said, I don't care as long as I can here you sing.
Dianne Davidson had a great album on Janus in the 70's titled "BABY".
A couple of superb gospel/rock/country tracks.
Another lady I find it impossible to get info on is DIANE KOLBY a Texan of the same period with the one l.p. on Columbia & a #1 single in Australia "Holy Man"
The reason this is interesting, specifically to "Temptation...", is that Dostoevsky was a (Russian Orthodox) Christian. His 'The Grand Inquisitor', a chapter from his 'The Brothers Karamazov' novel, is said to give a better argument for atheism than belief. I agree with Guighon however that the novel as a whole *shows* otherwise. That although the argument for atheism is not sufficiently refuted rhetorically, in a poetic sense it is when considering 'The Brothers Karamazov' in its entirety.
Re; Tracy Nelson and "Mother Earth": Charles Guighon wrote an intro. to Dostoevsky's 'The Grand Inquisitor', pointing out..."Dostoevsky was active in a movement called pochvennichestvo (from the word meaning "native soil,", but also "ground" or "foundation") which tried to counteract the Westernizing influence seeping into Russia by grounding reforms in the indigenous practices and beliefs of the Russian people." 14
Charles Guighon: ..."The novels constant references to "Mother Earth", to falling on the earth and to kissing the earth, convey this imagery of connectedness to the native soil and to the ground of one's existence."
The novel referred to here is Dostoevsky's 'The Brother's Karamazov'; 'The Grand Inquisitor' is an excerpt from that. Is there a connection between Tracy Nelson, "Mother Earth", and Dostoevsky?
Thanks so much. That would make sense for the name to be derived from a blues source. But just happened to be reading this 'Grand Inquisitor' excerpt after watching this Tracy Nelson video and noticed the similarity. Thought provoking.
Mind Blowing!!!! 1st time I heard this was in one of the SOA shows. Totally awesome. Thanks for posting.

The album this track is from is "Bring Me Home"
It is still my favorite Tracy Nelson l.p. & is out on c.d. at long last a couple of years back.
"I'll Be Long Gone"
"Soul Of Sadness"
"Seven Bridges Road"
"Bring Me Home"
Not a dud track on the entire record.
They literally don't make music like this anymore.

Lyrics in parts. Chorus:
Ive been lost before
Searching for the light so long
I cant take much more
But the road of life seems endless to me
And the rest you all know well
Cause Temptation Took Control of me and I fell
zhanay 3 years ago
Then I started to stumble
And I cried this cant be true
Got a mighty long road, to travel tonight
Just to get on home to you
Well I walked to the left and I walked to the right
But I could not find my way
Cried myself to sleep that night
And start again by day
zhanay 3 years ago
I cried out in desperation
Please forgive me for my evil ways
But I cant refuse your invitation
And Ill be coming on home to you
Some sweet day
Chorus

This fast became a favorite. It just stomps all over the mega-church Christian rock genre.

There may be, but I believe there's more of a connection between Tracy, "Mother Earth", and the Memphis Slim song of the same name.

Wow. That is so good. Came here through Linda Ronstadt youtube of Tracy Nelson's "Down So Low". Love this gospel rock, it's a great sound.
