I've had 7 Skodas, all brand new since 2002 and they are the best cars our family has had. Had a Merc brand new in 2005.....bag of crap.....Mrs has a Z4 now....bloody cash pit.....always wanting a soddin' sensor or something. Replaced the rear springs at 34000 miles as they both snapped. They do not snap at that mileage on a Skoda ! Also, is the Octavia still FWD ?

@iFunkMasterJ ~I believe its based on the passat (Golf sedan).....and does have a VW engine. The VW/ Audi group ownes most of everything outside FORD motor group.

@Lav25th1 The Octavia is built using the Golt/TT/Leon/A3/Beetle platform. It does not share the Passat platform and sits between the Golf and Passat sizewise. It's actually much better built than any of the VAG group cars, as googling JD Power survey or Driver Power survey will confirm - Skoda have won Driver Power 3 years running, and been in top ten of JD Power for the past 18 years.Only a minority of badgesnobs still deride the car, much to their loss :-)

How much power does that thing have? On a relative aerodynamic car like a Corvette you need about 450hp to just push it thought the air at 180mph. to get over 200mph, you certainly need over 600hp. The air becomes like treakle.
