Yeh it was about an affair he had. I remember him describing it vividly (probably on the radio) once. The girl's father was really angry and chased after him as she was upset when he left her. He learnt a lesson anyway as well as writing a good song.

Im so pleased to have found this this song to haunted me for years YES WHY was it so hard to find it stayed in my mind from first hearing it .

Who has not suffered such emotional pain, let alone the frustrations of trying to phone somebody from a call box - no coins, line permanently engaged etc. The final frustration is that this song is totally out of my vocal range.
