  • one of the best movies I`ve ever seen

  • Thanks for saving 2 hrs of my life

  • this movie is fucking corny but beign that it films the two most beautiful towers in the world and now there gone makes it the best movie ive seen

  • I remember this movie! Why? Because, it's one of the most disappointing horror films I've ever seen. I still today find myself irritatted at how corny & unscary this film was!

  • Growing up in Brooklyn, I had areas of my neighborhood that looked like this. We always played in those abandoned buildings without fear. Bums and derelicts were everywhere but they didn't bother us and we didn't bother them. But after this movie came out, we stayed away from those places. Just like people stayed away from the beach after Jaws came out. The idea of entering a building where something could drag you into the basement and NO ONE would know didn't occur to us before!

  • awesome quality, asshole

  • I just saw this movie and it scared the hell outta me, more than any simple horror movie ever could. Brilliant cinematography, especially with the wolfen, which were particularly menacing with a terror that I will never forget. All around great movie with a powerful message, and it will probably end up being my favorite of the big three "werewolf" films from '81.

  • hope the voiceover guy didn't get paid much, he suks -- Whitley Steiber's novel scared the piss out of me though -- great book

  • Great Vid!

  • I have this on dvd and the promo soundtracks on cds, one from James Horner and the unused score by Craig Safan.

  • @chadergeist some of the parts of the soundtrack actually sound like a few sections from ALIENS particular towards the when the wolfen show up

  • @trence5 I beleive Horner has his own signature in music notes that you will pick out in some movies. Like his personal key melody or something.

  • Nice, unique, atmospheric film.

  • Wolfen is so good it's scary

  • GREAT MOVIE(a master-piece), but a trailer stupid and simplistic =>>This does summed up the reality of the film.

The trailer describes a simple horror-movie, but Wolfen is not a horror movie, but an intelligent thriller and humanistic on our societies who crush everything (for the power, money ...).

Peace for the Indians and for the Wolves who suffered the madness of men.

  • wolfen is a city ind Germany ,

    Bitterfeld-wolfen

    its a city

  • In the book, the Wolfen are wolves with special abilities, but are not werewolves. The film implies that they are, because werewolves were so popular in 1981. AWIL and the Howling were also released that year.

  • If your an Albert Finney fan make sure to watch Looker also from 1981.

  • I like the fact that they used full blooded wolves in this movie and not dogs, or wolf-dog hybrids, like so many other movies out there. This was a fantastic movie and one of my favorites.

  • Nice little doggies :)

  • Brilliant horror thriller. Whatever happened to Mike Wadleigh?

  • The book is so much more then the movie. Wonderful piece of work. Shame the movie never lived up to it. missing characters and you never get to see the wolfs how truely smart and fast they are. Nor do you see the wolfs side .

  • Looks like fun!

  • I read the book, saw the movie. Neat seeing a young Edward James Olmos, and Gregory Hines. The book was phenomenal. Seeing Albert Finney so young freaked me out!

  • I heard Wolfen in DOLBY STEREO on channel4 years ago presented in NICAM725 digital the atmosphere sound effects kept it tense and gripping. James Horner score was fairly original at the time but once in while it pops up in Avatar and sounds a bit silly with dtsHDMA on bluray.

  • I absolutely loved the book and still read it every now and then, it was so well written. This is a movie that would benefit from today's technology. I think they could do a really good job of it as long as they kept to the book's story line instead of just another no-plot blood bath.

  • great and very creepy movie ! very underrated horror classic. good story, good acting and very creepy atmosphere

  • its about wolves who terrorize the streets of new york city. intelligent man eating wolves.

  • THEY CAN SENSE THE RITHEM OF YOU BLOOD

  • 1981 is the year of the werewolf. This was released along with Howling and American Werewolf in London, two more classics

  • the best of the 3 werewolf movies that dominated that portion of the 80s IMO

  • haha the part that scared me the most when i was a kid, is when they enter the church and it shows the stained glass pictures, and then those weird black eyes.

It's a great scene that lets the imagination run wild. ^_^

  • It was a movie from 1981 - gave me nightmares something fierce.

  • we couldn't see the "thing" what a crap trailer

  • The wolfen will come for you with his razor

  • Did Stephanie Meyer get her idea for native american werewolves from this film?

  • Hahahaha ha ha ha haha...no. No, she did not. She got all of her ideas from an Abercrombie & Fitch catalog.

  • WOW all I can say is Gregory freaking Hines. lol

  • @max2082 and james edwards olmos castilo from miami vice

  • founbd it! adding to my website tonight!

  • Pretty good, but I liked "Beagle!" better

  • In the middle of the book which is awesome! never saw the movie tho.

I think it is time to rent it out

  • Selected premiere engagements of Wolfen were presented in Megasound, a high-impact surround sound system similar to Sensurround. Director Wadleigh was unsatisfied with the final cut of the movie, but so far no director's cut of the film is available.

  • Nice cut and paste job from wikipedia!

  • The Wolfen were not werewolves, but in fact a more advanced version of a wolf which sat above man on the food chain.

  • you know if it did not say the name at the start you would think it whas a vampire movie cus of the thing thay can see your blood and all that

  • A great movie from the early 80's .

  • Amazing film! Based on an amazing book! Whitley Streiber is awesome!

  • For all of those who have read the book and/or seen the movie, is it worth seeing?

  • The book was excellent

  • I saw this film in the theatre when it was a first run release. I was not at all impressed. I hope for the sake of people here wondering whether they should see it that I got it wrong.

  • COOL!!!! I love this movie! Albert Finney is great in it.

  • Great eco statement, Ahead of its time.

"You've lost your senses." -- Eddie Holt. After his doing a little

shape shifting -- Iroquois style. Respect, Eddie.

  • Wolfen has got to be one of the most underated, misunderstood and neglected films in the history of cinema. It's a beautifuly shot, directed and above all atmospheric movie that has a very special place in my life. It brings back a lot of good eighties memories.

  • I saw this movie yesterday and found it to be very boring...one thing in this movie that would make me watch it again is all the nice shots of the twin towers....it's still hard to believe all these years later that they are gone!!

  • RIP Gregory Hines

  • Yeah, I still miss him... :(

  • I'm having trouble finding this film

  • one of my favorite underrated horror films. there are some creepy parts and gory parts.

  • This is a very good movie. I'd recommend it to werewolf fans. I am reading the novel right now and its good but the movie takes it to a cooler place. My advice, let go of preconceived werewolf ideas. This movie is about an evolutionary advanced wolf pack in the middle of NYC.

  • out of 10, what would you rate this movie? and is it something like 'an american werewolf in london?'

  • I'd rate it a five or six just cuz werewolf movies are very hard to make. Is it like AW in L? No, no movie is that good. American Werewolf is still the werewolf masterpiece, which is funny as the director wrote it as a comedy.

  • oh ok, lol i didnt rly find american werewolf in london tht funny XD, i should try to hire wolfen sometime

  • 1981

  • I loved this movie! It is at times very scary...

  • Great movie!Saw it in theaters years ago!

  • something out there has been eating people. go gregory!!!!

  • Never did see this one. Was it good, or do you know?

  • it'll scare the ... well i was warned off this one... it was a bit b4 my time... i understand it was way kewel tho.

  • It's not that old is it?LOL

  • Wolfen is the title of a 1981 horror film, i was 15 or 16 so yeah it is that old. my oldest sister said it was too scary for me to see. idk, it's not like i slept in the bathtub after watchin' fer-de-lance with david jansen. LOL true story!

  • Wolfen 1981. great movie. no cgi which is sooo cool.

  • It's a well crafted mystery-horror thriller, sadly underrated.

The cast is good, starring Albert Finney, Gregory Hines, and Edward James Olmos and the film also features seminal camera work as well as a striking music score by the then unknown composer James Horner (his first one for a "bigger" film, right before his big break with STAR TREK II).

  • Sad it doesn't show anything scary

  • this was an awesome , original, classic horror happily sitting in golden classic, legendary archives .

  • Its Almost As Good As The Ghost And The Darkness But Great Film.

  • it's too bad Michael Wadleigh (the director) had such a bad Hollywood experience and dropped out of the movie-biz, he would have gone on to make so many more interesting films if just given the opportunity

  • this movie was almost flawless. scary, atmospheric, and thought provoking.A classic that has gone unrecognized.

  • Yeah, you're right. I think this was the best horror film ever made. Even better than the Exorcist.

  • I love this movie, i've got the Uk quad poster for it. Some great steadi Cam work and POV shots.

Really needs a special edtion dvd.

  • I thought it was a good movie, but pointlessly gory. If they had died normal deaths rather than having their brains pop out I think this movie would have done better than it did. Scared more respectable people from seeing it, many of which probably wouldn't have been offended by the plot if it were more family friendly .

  • Scarier than a Silent Hill?

  • somethin' out there might be eatin' people

  • omg that was an awsome movie!!

  • I just started reading this bbok

  • I have seen that I spelled sever wrong so do not rebuke me, I implore you.

  • I liked the film, but wolves can't severe heads and hands,at least not without chewing on them for a few minutes.

  • Very underrated movie. Despite what the trailer may imply, this is not a horror film. It's really a crime mystery drama. I would describe it as an episode of C.S.I. with wolves in it. A great film nonetheless. And to one of the posters above, it is on DVD (though there is very little as far as extras).

  • Yes, a very well-done movie and greta score by James Horner. Hard to believe Wolfen was directed by Michael Wadleigh, the guy who helmed the original Woodstock

  • the dialogue in this movie is great and some of it is really funny. the main character is a great for this part.

can someone post the line that the main character or the coroner says when they walk past that dead guy in the on the hospital bed? pretty sure it's the coroner. he says something about how he knew the guy and how he had it coming...it's funny.

  • And the Wolfen will come for you, with his razor...

  • lol warewolf from the south bronx...last of the white flighters

  • Goodness, I never watched the movie but the trailer looks so bad!!! There's no werewolf!!!

  • The movie isn't about werewolves. :)

  • @evilpeti and yet someone put it in atop ten of werewolf movies lol

  • @sashaqueenie Just watch that great movie. Awesomely directed!

  • Love that movie, very well done! Very unique movie!

  • Is this on DVD?

  • That's when they knew how to make previews. Great concept, and I love the wolf's eye view of things, very trippy!

  • I just bought this movie at a yardsale! I'm so excited to watch it now. I haven't had a chance, yet.

  • I been looking for this trailer ande the whole movie for years!!..yo make my day man!!..thanx thanx!!....this is one of my favorite 3 wolf movies, the other 2 are the howling and romasanta!!..

  • I've been looking for it as well for a very long time. The prob is that in the trailer there are some scenes that are actually not in the movie.

  • true true evilpeti, actually alot of trailers are like that, it's intentional. They don't want to give away too much, hence the different scenes. Hope that helps.

  • I like Diane venora in the movie. She's cool in the Jackal too.

  • Can't argue with you there, man! :D

  • Edward James Olmos is young here!!!

  • The music is even composed by James Horner (see also Alien) Thank you for the comment!

  • No, it was Aliens.

  • a great movie for sure!

  • Scary, innovative stuff, as far as camerawork is concerned.

  • I reccommend seeing the whole movie! At last someone who still likes old horror movies! Thanks for the comment!
