Thanks... That was actually the 1st time trying.. I WAS going to start with a loose rein, then go to a halter, then one lead, then the rope around the neck... but..... I got daring that day and said, "Why not, I think he's tired enough to behave".. Luckily he was.. LOL.. I've doe it quite a few time since, maybe about 10-20 and only got thrown off the once (Someone opened the arena door and spooked him) he bolted, bucked and I went off.. lol.. That was on the 3rd or 4th time.
haha me and my little Arab do that a lot. First time I grabbed my helmet cuz I thought I was going to end up in a tree somewhere. But horses respond really well to the person that they love & trust. :) Great job. The canter was B E A U T I F U L ! ! ! & Tiki is very pretty. :)
Don't sell yourself short, you and Tiki did AMAZING!!! I wanna try this!! I don't have my own horse anymore=[ But I have a friend who's letting me work his horses. I don't know them well enough yet to try this, lol. Might be a fun summer project though!
aww.. Thanks. I really am proud of him and now that I'm back at the same barn again I would like to try it some more with him but will have to work up to it again.. (he's been bratty lately) lol.
Good luck with the one you are working with, I'm sure you'll have fun no matter what the outcome is. Just building a bond with a horse is such a great feeling. The best really. :-)
Trust me.. if I could do this with this horse, you'll get there with who ever you ride.. Once the bond is formed, you'll just know when it'll work.. :-) Best of luck.
Thanks... I was quite impressed with him myself.. But as you can see I only went the one direction.... I know if I were to try the other way he would of sped up and most likely bucked me off... I was just reading him to know what I could and couldn't do.... Luckily I read him right!! lol
Yes very lucky!! You did great and so did he! You guys did in a short time period which makes this sooooo much more impressive!! You must be very proud =)
awe thats cool... I'm almost to that point on my 'impressive' mare, I love her. She is so even tempered, just like your's seems to be. I show western and english pleasure mainly, but I love trails and reining too.
Even tempered?? An Impressive? I'm shocked.. lol.. Mine isn't even tempered, he's more like multiple personality tempered... lol One day good (Like here of course) other day bad.. But mostly good now. He was really bad up until a few yrs ago. Now he's 13 and not so unpredictable as before! Yours must be one of the few Impressive's that are even tempered!! (From what I've heard anyway) :-)
yea, well she is one that you can just hop on without lunging. She is 6 now, but she is the lead of our herd. She isn't even tempered with them at all(biting, pinning her ears), but when you are on her back, she is as sweet as can be....normally :) my mom has a natural iron horse and he is the opposite. around the pasture, he is friendly, but he is a bomb waiting to go off when you are on his back.
I go without lunging mine too.. Never really did lunge him once he turned 4... Just rather get on and go.. lol.. He's also the boss in his heard and now most of the time a sweat heart to ride.. Just has the "moments" but I love him..
Thanks.. Ironically he seems more relaxed like this too then with a bridle.. When I ride with a bridle and happen to loosen the reins, he speeds right up.. lol... Go figure... I guess they just know... "Let's not mess this up or she'll stick the bit in my mouth again" lol
yep, that's my pony too!! She'll jog low and slow with no bridle, put one on, and no way! it's so silly. but, I am looking forward to doing some bridleless classes with her this coming show season. my trainer helps put on a fun show, lots of natural horsemanship. it's fun :)
Sounds about right.. lol... I would literally need for a "no way out" for him to do it.. I could keep him going fine, but he'd go around... The horse I used to do this with when I was about 14 or so probably would of though. Then again he's the one I jumped 3feet bareback with (he's only 14'1) I was also able to do alot more with him "free riding" Figure 8's, speed up, quick stop, slow to fast to slow a again, change leads.... He was just very in tuned with me.
thts sooo cool!!! my guys only 3. hes a really good jumper. i used 2 do hunters/jumpers/eq and i was gunna take him 2 my old jumping barn so i could do jumper classes with him. but they said i couldnt board there cuz he was a paint. so i quit riding there and switched 2 reining which i like way betterand ace is a natural reiner. we slid 4ft the other day. whoooo!!! lol
You couldn't take him because he was a paint? What kind of stuck up place is that?
Reining is awesome, you get a bit of everything. Takes a lot of dedication though, something I don't have enough time for but admire those who do. One man I looked up to when I was young was a reiner, I've used many of his technics towards horses I have worked with and trained. I've always been one to take a little from everyone I thought was great!! Combine them all and you find great results.. :)
ya i kno. like the other day i told my jumper friends i had ben doing reining consistantly and quit jumping and eglish, oh gez, u shuld have seen thier faces XD it was like they just saw a huge car crash!!! XD. ya sum english ppl look @ me funny when i say im a reiner. lol yi love reining soo much!!!! my uncles a pro reining trainer and he did a spectacular job w/ my 3yrold. i luvv 2 rein sooo much! :D
I don't get why some styles of riding make people so judgmental on others. What works for some, won't work for others, just like the way I train for mine would not work for what you would want as a reiner. I've always worked/trained horses, but only for trails and attitude issues. I'll take on any challenge, but training for "fancy footwork" I don't have time for, once they are broke in, sound and will do just about anything you'd ask of them on trail, I'm good with that. Shows...Not for me. :)
ya i agree. :) i love going on trails with my pony now, b4 he went in reiningtraining he used 2 spook @ everything, but now hes great! i think training horses 4 a trail should be used on every horse cuz its really beneficial abd it helps the horse out 2, like it gives them something else 2 do, a new element. :)
Wow. I've ridden bareback with a halter and lead but never without anything. I have a horse I could probably do it without even the slightest problem...but she's so high withered that it would be so far from comfortable, lol.
Oh hell ya... especially concidering how bad he can be... Saddles and all 3weeks ago, he threw me GOOD... I'm SO mad I didn't get the camera.. I KNEW he was going to throw me before I even got to the barn.. (New barn, snow came, was alone for a month with just one horse, new horses got there, hadn't ridden in 3weeks.. = BAD Tiki.. lol.. The snow made for a fun and funny landing though.. lol
thanks... I've been riding all my life and have been put on all sorts of "problematic" horses.. I can stay on and ride well.. but not well as in "show well" Guaranteed in a show ring I wouldn't place... I'm about the enjoyment of the ride.. not really the "perfection of seat" while riding... Their are equestrians and cowgirls... I'm a Cowgirl.. lol...
If Tiki was good for me to do this, I beleive anyone can do it if they really try.. (he's a BRAT) lol... I'm sure if you want it bad enough, you'll succeed. I wish you luck, you CAN do it... When you do, msg me so I can see a video... :)
Great Job^-^ absolutaly Brilliant^^ u just inspired meh tew keep trying that^^ keep up the good work! :D ~xoxo alex *hands yew a cookie* lols BRILLIANT!!
Now I REALLY wish I took video of Monday's ride.. Saddled and all, but he THREW me GOOD... lol... The "bad" side came out.. hehe.. Gave him shit then he was good as gold again. He has his moments, but that's what I love about him.. that even with the BAD, there's the really good like in this video.. :)
It's so free feeling.. I tried him outside the other week and he was GREAT, I was shocked he did it for me with outside distractions.. Now I just have to do it again and get it on tape!! :) Have fun!!

I think I'm at the best I'll get from him for that.. lol.. He's quite the "special" horse at times.. lol.. The fact that he lets me do this was incredible, but I know how to read him (most of the time) and know if I were to try even the other direction it would end with me in the air.. lol.. Thank you though for your vote of confidence.. He's still my baby though, even if he didn't do this for me.. :)
I do this all the time with my neighbors mare and she can do the all speeding up and slowning down and figure 8 cuz she has been gaming so long but I wouldn't try this with the horses I have on my hands on has been on bareback once and the one thats really mine is also very green but we are entering reining shows now so it won't be long before I can ride her like Stace and Roxy
