the fact of the matter is that the president was right in his comment on wednesday night: the arrest was stupid, and the officer used poor judgment. It matters not what professor gates did or did not say. He was in his own home, and had been wrongly accused of committing a crime. He was in home, his own sanctuary, and he was required to offer proof that it was his, and he had to face the accusation that he had no right to be there. He was justifiably upset.
