In Sweden there are houses that don't need any heating at all, the heating needed is generated by the human body and normal electrical equipment, such as lights, tv...
germans are perfectionists to the bone and FAR ahead on this, we had our first passive house buildt here in norway not far away these days, electicity is so cheap up here we dont think too much about saving electricity (due to an almost unlimited amount of large waterfalls and waterfall turbines). This tecnique should be enforced by law though, especially so far north as i live, its unneccesery to waste energy in these times of high energy costs and enviromental issues
Net zero energy housing must start with sensible designs like this one. Combineing renewable energy resources like geo-thermal, bio-fuel waste to energy conversion, wind solor and other alternatives can actualy produce an energy surpluse while simoltainiously reducing Co2 emissions and landfill waste. Your closed system concept is absolutly the right way to go. Acepted building practices must adjust to these technologies.
Please feel free to see "ARKANSAS SIMPLE" (patented 1980, now up) "How to heat hot water" SIMULTANEOUSLY in and out of Cooling or goes back to Heat mode in ~2 hours if space heat calls. And HYDRONIC 4th function is in (view?) for radiators and in-floor. 1-800-382-3113 over 30 years !
4Synergy (tm) is also having 4th Priority Radiant Heat for floors~~~~~~ NEW (2nd is 4.1/2 min) VID at gtJONgeo
I can't believe this. this is amazing. why are we not doing this here today in California. Pasadena Specifically? I'm ready. I'm going to learn and begin my journey today! As it is, I drive a Toyota Prius Hybrid. getting over 50 miles per gallon, and looking to convert to Plug-In Prius status. this combined with the use of solar power would give me clean transportation use. very very nice!
Nice town Verona... I'm from Milano. Things like this have to become LAW: you should not be forced to build houses this way, but they have to discourage you in any way not doing it...
this is highly educating. people like this are teaching us how to live! I'm hopeful that people will drop the infighting & become responsible for energy resources themselves. gov't needs a push, but it won't come from rejecting opinions via internet message boards
lol natural gas, russia... haha. i like it though

yea and in iceland they just pump hot water out of the ground, and guess what, the pump is powered by geothermal power.
In some places hot water is cheaper the cold!

Can you run a pipeline to Canada? It gets cold here.
naflodi 3 years ago
i'm pretty sure it would be near impossible to keep the water hot for over 2000 miles of pipeline submerged in the north atlantic...

maybe if you insulated it really well?
naflodi 3 years ago
Interesting. Can you tell me how much insulation they have in the walls and roof?
naflodi 3 years ago
Don't know for sure, but it's about the doubble. Which should be about 400mm thick. But search the web, info available.

Congratulations. This building is an excellent accomplishment. The film is motivating and educational.

I love how this is just sensible technilogical concepts put together to form a whole. There's nothing experimental here, just good ideas

Congratulations on having a wonderful scheme that shows what can be done to reduce energy consumption as well as how to recycle water effectively.
