Except for the ukulele in the opening bars of the song, I think all of the musical sounds were made by the musicians themselves. that's impressive musicianship. The amazing backstory to this recording is that the Vagabonds only had an hour to prepare it and another song "Rose of Charing Cross", which was to be the "A" side. They learned it, arranged it, harmonized it and recorded it nailing it on the first take. How is that for setting production records!!

The "E" was a special pin that they gave out during WWII as an award for production for the war effort.

The Four Vagabonds were one of the most popular vocal groups of the early 40s but are sadly nearly forgotten today. They were highly gifted singers and were known for their sound effects.. These aren't trumpets - those are the Four Vagabonds vocalizing trumpets.
