I have to disagree with the shopping. It could and it should be a lot better. I don't want to be a product of society or anything, nor do I want to be a snob, but I couldn't believe that they were opening a Primark on Princes Street. They're not now though.

Spent altogether 3 years of my 24 year life in Edinburgh and only recently moved back to the North East of Scotland. Despite growing up in this part of Scotland i would happily consider Edinburgh my home as it is the only city i've ever really felt at home in.

I've always thought that the two best months to be in Edinburgh are August and December. August for the largest arts festival in the world and December for the German Market on Princes Street (and the atmosphere it provides)
