do u think that the people in the music world of today would ever do what they did in the 80's. i dont think they would .i think they are too much into themself to care about others
Please look at my myspace and vz, according to the group: DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME?!!!!! I can not do it alone, I need you all!!!! thankx @all
UNFAIIIIR!!!! poor babies, olds, men, this the world it's that we created!!!, while there are people throw the food they dream with eat some day simply unfair!!!
BOB GELDOF and the artists that sing for this couse are big, BOB really admirable man
Tears For Fears, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, Human League, OMD,
Queen, Alison Moyet, Kim Wilde, Heaven 17, The Smiths, The Cure, Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Kajagoogoo, Limahl, ABC, Blancmange, Echo & The Bunnyman, China Crisis, Madness, A Flock Of Seagulls, Billy Idol, Icicle Works, David Sylvian, Bryan Ferry, Fiction Factory, Level 42, UB40, Colourfield, Feargal Sharkey
It was such a wonderful era for music, we were spolit for choices : )
I'm sure the guy from Heaven 17 was singing in the video. he is speaking in this track
Don't forget some of the acts that you've listed weren't as popular in late 1984 eg Kajagoogoo were over, Level 42 hadn't blown up yet, OMD was more popular in 1985 and 1986
Oh yes, you are right, Glenn Gregory is singing inside, so I should remove Heaven 17 and put in maybe Shakin' Stevens, haha.... However I must disagree with the saying that only the very popular acts with achievements in 1984 were involved in Band Aid, For example Sting had no releases at all in 1984 and Marilyn's releases did not hit Top 20, whereas Level 42 already hit Top 20 with "Hot Water", & OMD were already big in UK in 1984 with Top 20 hits "Locomotion" & "Talking Loud & Clear".
you have a point. But wasn't Marilyn there because he was a popular 'friend' of Boy George at the time? Bob Geldof has said that he had to turn some people away and some were not available at the time also he called people he was friendly with or knew.
Reagan was also too busy putting an end to communism in countries like Romania, try looking up the history about all the aid that the free world including the U.S. and Great Britain gave to the starving millions around the world during that time period. You'll learn that the truth just BLOWS when it doesn't agree with what you want to believe. And do a little research about the Sandinistas, they were not the angels you seem to think they were.
Reagan wasn't busy doing anything. Additionally, foreign aid during the "Reagan Era" was usually illegally diverted to assisted countries with their military - including Iraq (why did Cheney and Rhumsfeld believe Saddam has weapons of mass destruction? Because they sold them to him) until about three months before he invaded Kuwait.
I am well versed in history. It is well know even by those who served in his administration, that he spent his time recalling irrelevant information.
When asked if he had approved the Iran/Contra "Program", he stated, "I don't remember". Now, the relevant fact here is that no one in the country was surprised. No other president in U.S. history would have gotten away with that answer. The fact that he did, says more about "what he did" than anything!
What he stated he didn't remember, was done BEFORE he was president. The "Program" was to make agreements so that the hostages would be released on the day Reagan took the Oath of Office. Therefore, Reagan (actually his future administration with his initial approval when he did remember), sold weapons to the very people who took the Americans hostage (Iran) through Israel - all before he had the power to do anything! This was the most serious constitutional issue since Watergate!
And just think, if all of the rich celebrities in the world donated a quarter to your public schools, people like you would someday learn how to spell and type properly.
Instead you've got Jamie Oliver concerning himself with the malnourishment of your pot-bellied children and wasting Cola and trans-fat foods by dumping it all into a giant tarp when that could've fed 10 black families in Burkina Faso. Perhaps he thought there was something funny in the food that was causing people like yourself from advancing any further in your education of your native tongue of English.
As long as there is people hungry anywhere in the world the job is not finished we are all humans and should be ashamed to let any one go to sleep hungry.remember we all have to look ourselves in the mirror in the morning IT COULD US AT ANYTIME
This makes me so proud of my generation ... it was an idealistic project that never gave up when the initiators (Geldof, Bono, etc) found out the enormous extent of the problem. They have continued to work within and without the system to raise consciousness and bring about the possibility of economic justice in at least some places in the world.
Of course, the standard of living many Brits enjoy comes from decades, even centuries, of exploitation of the people who are now suffering in the Southern Hemisphere ...
I have to agree with rongillhaus on this one. Charity does begin at home. Plus often foreign interference can cause more bad than good. Especially on a country with a population of such a magnitude. Why don't you let their population shrink a little due to... natural causes... and then try again after you've sorted yourselves out? I'm sure by the time you've fixed your own problems, their population will be such that your kids could feed Africa with 5p a week garnished from their paper routes.
After the CIA-sponsored assassination of [then] Zaire's democratically elected Patrice Lumumba, Mobutu stole all the wealth and left the country bankrupt.
Not content with that, however, the US- and European-based multinationals and even governments now fund militias to "protect" the resources-- by maintaining constant military chaos, killing 10s of thousands, destroying the ecosystem, and preventing the people from controlling their own country and their own future.
I remember when this was recorded Yeah they were all young and cute but that is not the message of the song... what is wrong with you?????????? Don't you get the message it is still an imprtant issue that has not gone away 1984 to 2009 and not much has changed what a shame....
The giving can't stop. People, wake up,it is the biggest shame on our planet to see this still. And we know all that it's possible to give and share foods with everyone.
I always loved this version which was a flip on the 12" and I think it blew away the short "radio version". The sad part is that 23 years later and after all of the great work, time and commitment of an all star cast of artists, there are still people starving all over the world. :-(
you know, it think its rather some kind of promotion!

It wouldn't pay the interest on ONE DAY of IMF and World Bank loans that keep those people in perpetual poverty.
Remember, it's YOUR inflated standard of living that contributes to THEIR barely being able to live.

neighbourinblack 3 years ago
Sure. Many African nations could MORE than feed themselves. As a matter of fact, 200 years ago, the African continent was a net EXPORTER of food.
But Western/US/Europeans have since invaded and taken over control of almost all of the African societies' natural resources.
A prime example is the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo), which was run for more than 30 years by US puppet Mobutu Sese Seko (cont)
