Meh sonic and mario are cool, but sparkster blows them both out of the water, shame he's not known enough and konami won't give him the attention he deserves, rocket knight adventures 1 is easily one of the best games ever made to Me (even topping sonic and knuckles in some parts).

@lukestermnac Other than strenght. Sonic is much thinner/fitter, so he's definately more agile. He can turn Super too, but I get what your saying : Mario doesn't need emeralds of any sort. The idea of Sonic was to rival with mario in the begging, but it took parts from DBZ too. The 2 series went in different directions now.

... Okay, Sonic may be fast, but the games show that he is very easy to knock out if you hit him, and he isn't nearly as strong as Mario, and Mario's fire attacks are quite powerful. Mario would win many fights that Sonic would have no chance in, and would be able to win most fights Sonic would. He's more versatile.
Also... Say it was LUIGI vs Sonic. That is different, as the Chaos Emeralds would probably be substantially less effective on the one with the power of the Chaos Heart.
@Jakerooo123 For one, Sonic is quite strong, I wouldn't come to the assumtion Mario is stronger than him without a completely valid reason. For two, Luigi's scared of ALOT of things, he'd likely be frozen in fear while Sonic dashes around him too fast to see. Sonic wouldn't even need one emerald for that. And no, it's not very easy to knock Sonic out. He's been bashed into buildings by a giant robot several times in the Sonic X series, and had still been standing.

I see your other comment. Mario is good for most everything, just not overly exceptional at anything. Sonic's exceptional at running, but very poor in most areas. Luigi is exceptional at jumping, but poor in a few areas, but still good in most.
Also, Mario's more powerful... Sonic doesn't have any useful magic attacks (without the [broken] chaos emeralds), while Mario uses rather good fire attacks.

@Sleekadoom Mario has super-speed and endless stamina as well, though his speed isn't to quite the same degree. He's still managed to run straight up walls, lift entire castles. Mario's also pretty agile, he's known to be very athletic.

Also, it's never directly stated how fast Mario can run... From what I've seen, depending on the country, the Bullet Bills either go twice or ten times the speed of sound (based on Mario Kart Wii), and Mario can keep pace with them. Luigi can outrun them.

Not really, things can't punch him from behind without being cut up. Also, why would that be a hinderance? Sonic doesn't really use much time or effort in curling up. Also, power ups. Sonic has many different shields that he can use. (out of room)
@CodyDaedricPrince Mario's a doctor, and older, more experienced. In Sonic games, enemies can hurt Sonic from behind, that is what I was referring to. What I don't like is saying that one will win outright, when what they have very apparent weaknesses. I'm not saying that Mario WILL win, I'm saying that he has a good chance. In my opinion, though, Luigi and Tails are both better than either Mario or Sonic. I'm also saying that I detest people calling the Chaos Emeralds fair, though.

If you put Sonic in a Mario game, and gave him the same power-ups, Sonic could get through easily. If you put Mario in a Sonic game and give HIM the same power-ups, he could get through, though much slower than the pace Sonic would get through.

Though it's not directly stated, it has been shown that Mario can run at supersonic speeds (about Mach 1.5, actually) in Super Paper Mario, even without Dashell... because there's an enemy that launches a painfully slow sound wave at you to attack... And sound travels at, well, the speed of sound. You can't slow it down unless you put it into something else... And most things make sound travel faster rather than slower.

It's not just to marry Peach, but to destroy the entire universe and remake it in his own image, with Peach by his side as queen. So, Mario is saving the UNIVERSE. And, at one point, he saves all universes in one go.

You can't make something from nothing, you can't make nothing from something, air friction will rip something that goes fast enough apart, inertia causes problem for speed as well... Science rarely applies fully in fiction.
I am well aware in real life, it's impossible... but it isn't real. It's fiction.
@Jakerooo123 The point I was making was that the universe is - well - the universe. There's only one as far as anyone currently knows. I think mario saving all galaxies at once makes a lot more sense, but yeah. I can't help but think Sonic would win, because of all his kickass powers that Mario dosent have (Chaos control, all of his different and varyingly OP forms, experience against opponents similar opponents to Mario which Mario dosen't have back, you get the gist of it)

In real life, there's only one universe known... inter-universal travel does happen in the Mario series, though. Warp pipes can be used to do it, among other things.
Mario also always finds a way around unlimited power...

@PrrrromotionGiven Well, he has shown these aspects to some degree. Mario's actually faster than most people think... The fastest he's run in the games is around 2000 mph (estimated from comparison to soundwave [NOT shockwave] attacks), compared to Sonic's fastest of 2500 (exact value given).
Also, Mario can sort-of teleport, at least, that's how it would look to anyone watching, no one can see, touch, or hear him. It's slightly slower than he runs, though.

@lukestermnac Other than strenght. Sonic is much thinner/fitter, so he's definately more agile. He can turn Super too, but I get what your saying : Mario doesn't need emeralds of any sort. The idea of Sonic was to rival with mario in the begging, but it took parts from DBZ too. The 2 series went in different directions now.

... Okay, Sonic may be fast, but the games show that he is very easy to knock out if you hit him, and he isn't nearly as strong as Mario, and Mario's fire attacks are quite powerful. Mario would win many fights that Sonic would have no chance in, and would be able to win most fights Sonic would. He's more versatile.
Also... Say it was LUIGI vs Sonic. That is different, as the Chaos Emeralds would probably be substantially less effective on the one with the power of the Chaos Heart.

@Jakerooo123 For one, Sonic is quite strong, I wouldn't come to the assumtion Mario is stronger than him without a completely valid reason. For two, Luigi's scared of ALOT of things, he'd likely be frozen in fear while Sonic dashes around him too fast to see. Sonic wouldn't even need one emerald for that. And no, it's not very easy to knock Sonic out. He's been bashed into buildings by a giant robot several times in the Sonic X series, and had still been standing.

I see your other comment. Mario is good for most everything, just not overly exceptional at anything. Sonic's exceptional at running, but very poor in most areas. Luigi is exceptional at jumping, but poor in a few areas, but still good in most.
Also, Mario's more powerful... Sonic doesn't have any useful magic attacks (without the [broken] chaos emeralds), while Mario uses rather good fire attacks.

@Sleekadoom Mario has super-speed and endless stamina as well, though his speed isn't to quite the same degree. He's still managed to run straight up walls, lift entire castles. Mario's also pretty agile, he's known to be very athletic.
Also... Mario is MUCH smarter than Sonic.
Sonic's quills are useless unless he curls up in a ball though.
Also... I have a question. Do you know what Luigi can do? His cowardice hides his power... He's much more powerful than anyone else in the Mario Series.

Also, it's never directly stated how fast Mario can run... From what I've seen, depending on the country, the Bullet Bills either go twice or ten times the speed of sound (based on Mario Kart Wii), and Mario can keep pace with them. Luigi can outrun them.

@CodyDaedricPrince Mario's a doctor, and older, more experienced. In Sonic games, enemies can hurt Sonic from behind, that is what I was referring to. What I don't like is saying that one will win outright, when what they have very apparent weaknesses. I'm not saying that Mario WILL win, I'm saying that he has a good chance. In my opinion, though, Luigi and Tails are both better than either Mario or Sonic. I'm also saying that I detest people calling the Chaos Emeralds fair, though.

@Jakerooo123 Most people tend to focus on the "realistic" aspects of these characters, which is what many people argue over. Anyways, let's just put it this way. If you put Sonic in a Mario game, and gave him the same power-ups, Sonic could get through easily. If you put Mario in a Sonic game and give HIM the same power-ups, he could get through, though much slower than the pace Sonic would get through.

Though it's not directly stated, it has been shown that Mario can run at supersonic speeds (about Mach 1.5, actually) in Super Paper Mario, even without Dashell... because there's an enemy that launches a painfully slow sound wave at you to attack... And sound travels at, well, the speed of sound. You can't slow it down unless you put it into something else... And most things make sound travel faster rather than slower.

You can't make something from nothing, you can't make nothing from something, air friction will rip something that goes fast enough apart, inertia causes problem for speed as well... Science rarely applies fully in fiction.

In real life, there's only one universe known... inter-universal travel does happen in the Mario series, though. Warp pipes can be used to do it, among other things.
Mario also always finds a way around unlimited power...

@PrrrromotionGiven Well, he has shown these aspects to some degree. Mario's actually faster than most people think... The fastest he's run in the games is around 2000 mph (estimated from comparison to soundwave [NOT shockwave] attacks), compared to Sonic's fastest of 2500 (exact value given).
Also, Mario can sort-of teleport, at least, that's how it would look to anyone watching, no one can see, touch, or hear him. It's slightly slower than he runs, though.

Now mario just wants to take a rest by saving the world in his ds games. Also sonic once had a quest to save a princess. Princess peach gets captured at the beginning of the game and is rescued at the end. Sonic´s princess gets away and CAPTURED AGAIN numerous times in the game. Also that princess likes to kiss animal corpses. That´s a "princess" there.

In Sonic its alway the SAME thing ALL OVER AGAIN. Also Italy is awesome: The origin of pizza and the second best soccer player in the world. @DronaStorm YOU ARE JUDGING A GAME BECAUSE OF GRAPHICS. Sonic has a lot of powers!? spin attack, homing attack, super sonic. Mario´s powers: fireball, cape, invulnerability, hammer throw(really far away for a hammer that size) fly, SWIM, metal, iceball, etc... If i included all the special powers from the ds games you´d faint. And mario saves the kingdom/world/galaxy/universe WHILE saving princess peach!!!
