I own an 89 Superdog with an E9 and the smoke came out balanced with the back pressure of the stock mufflers but with straight pipes the way the Y pipe is bent and the fact that the driver side stack has 2 more bends to negotiate the smoke comes out unbalanced unless you put in a restrictor in the passenger side elbow when i re-did my stacks i pt a 5-4 inch reducer in upside down in the top of the exhaust elbow and it evened it out nice.

The truck is turbocharged, so there is only one exhaust pipe. My guess is the Y pipe isn't centered enough, and not allowing enough to come out the left pipe. Pretty sure under load it gets enough to equalize, but just reving it up it doesn't.

if you get some exhaust pipes nearly every truck can have a good sound. even the 6zyl engines.

Scania and Mack have the same firing pattern so they have a very similar sound. It just depends on the exhaust setup.

but piggy-back the Brakesaver w/a Blue Ox "Guillotine" & you're set...

why is the smoke mostly coming out of the right side?

Since it's a shorter distance from turbo, the smoke tends to not make it all the way over to the drivers side pipe.
