JOHN ADAMS .... & ..... BAND OF BROTHERS ..... are the Best of the HBO Mini - series to date .... This is the Best REVOLUTIONARY WAR / AMERICAN HISTORY Film ever made
When I was little my grandma told me that I was related to some guy names John Adams. As an 8 year old I though "So, who cares?" But nowaday I look at this man and feel proud to be able to say I am (distantly) a part of him. He deserves way more credit then he gets. He pretty much created independence.
On watching this, I finally understand the exclaiming pride which has been shouted aloud, over & over, by the self evident liberty of what was, the birth & declaration of the USA
Though now is the time for all Americans, if they be patriots,to do away with their faith in the established mainstream channels of political & cultural machinations, for both the state of Nation & planet,in which they wield great influence
For the those whom appose the testament of said declaration, now control its apex
The tar and feathering scene is actually inaccurate. Sam Adams and John Hancock were never present at any scenes where tar and feathering took place as they were both very anti-mob. Also despite it's frequent mention and depiction in history, tar and feathering was not a common thing at that time
@MrAbolitionist Free speech is overrated these times. Highly overrated. It makes people see demons in every corner. Forbid freedom of speech and the one who opens his mouth thats the person i'm prepared to listen too, thats when it becomes interesting and important. The free speech we have is worth nothing, there is too much of it.
Just start to stand up for what is right. I can;t really help because I don't know in detail your situation. But I just want to tell you how sorry I am for you and I hope everything turns well for you very soon. :)
I saw this movie last year in social studied and until then I hated the class but I loved it afterwards and when it was over we all didn't want it to end. It was totally worth it!
I'm sure the tarring ruined alot of peoples days, back then ! Its part of history, and only one of many brutal practices of the day. I believe many didn't survive it, as their skin would come off with the tar. Sorry, yeah thats just gross.
Anyway, great to see many students taking an interest.
@melarry, thanks for pointing that out. I wasn't aware of John Adams stance on slavery. That makes me admire him even more. Too bad his contemporaries didn't listen.
Watched disc one of this over the weekend-can't wait to see the rest! I haven't had HBO in years; Thank god for Netflix. Every American should see this.
Don't get me wrong though, I do love my country with its ups and downs, but in the year 2010 when a black man who had a 4 year college degree, have an ok paying job and driving a 2009 BMW 535 series and followed by a cop for 7 miles and then got pulled over and asked for driver's license, registration and said he just got a report of a stolen BMW just because I'm black and driving a nice car doens't mean I'm a drug dealer Mr. Officer and people like that are wrong for America.
@jeanol1 Well all i have to say about that is the cop is wrong but you are wrong also. You are stereotyping police officers at the same time you are saying police officers are stereotyping blacks
jeanol1 you are what is wrong with america, dude shut the hell up with your ole poor us and poor me. let your grandpa tell us that and then he will get some respect, hell ill give it to him myself, but you what did you have to go thru playstation and i phones and text message. people like you talk so much crap about racial stuff and your the ones that keep it alive. it you want free quit talking like your a slave because your not and havent a clue what it means to be one. stupid ass idot
@325thabn - Why don't you tell your KKK people, your 4th Reich people and your Aryan Nation people who are wrong with America to shut the hell up, like the ones in Virginia, South Carolina, Texas, Arizona who are celebrating Confederate Month and you know damn well them confedies never liked black people at all. Those confederate great grand children are in public office now, I guess they're trying to finish up the work that great grand parents started, I hope that makes you feel better.
Slaves built nation from Washington, DC all the way to Mount Rushmore to the Rail Road to the Factories and made the white man super rich. After all these years in America til this year 2010, we are still left behind and they have no respect for us at all.
@jeanol1 : All races and ethnic groups have built this great nation. To make a comment that "Slaves" or Africans built everything is simpy ignorance. I'm sure my German ancestors who who worked in glass factories, My Welsh ancestors who worked in coal mines, and my Italian ancestors who worked on the railroad, had something to do with it also. I understand that the African have had the greatest struggle, but move on and stop looking back, or that is where you will stay. In the past
@jeanol1 That isn't correct. Slaves definitely built Washington DC. But you are posting your overreaching complaint on the trailer for a film about the man who very nearly persuaded Congress to abolish slavery with the Declaration of Independence. John Adams was the only founding father who owned no slaves and who pushed for abolition to the end of his days.
@jeanol1 It was big business and profitable, but that's two entirely different' things from the contentions you were stating. As I said, you are posting these things on a trailer regarding a TV series for the one person you shouldn't have a complaint with. That said, I don't think you or the other people who've posted are minorities at all. I think you're trolls. You're portraying a very racist image of what you see a black person as being. This will be my last post to you.
encourage everyone you know to watch this movie, great! good thing you can watch it too for free in high definition quality at newWATCHmovies{dot}com.
This movies okay, but when i watched it, the tarring part pretty much ruined my day. I love gory movies, but something about torture and all that is just really scary to me, just like the idea, althou im not at all scared of movies like 300, its weird

I just finished watching this and the way it portrayed John Adams was really unsympathetic. Paul Giamatti's performance comes across as whiney, impulsive, and grouchy. Whenever he felt uncertain his old shrew of a wife would step in and we'd be treated a tedious scene where she pats him on the back and says there, there, John, I know you'll do what you feel is right.
John Adams might have been the 2nd President of America, but I wouldn't have trusted him to run a bath! One out of five stars.
This is one of the best movies on the American revolution. The greatest revolution that lead to French revolution and various other revolutions for democracies, republics and the end of monarchies.
Yea I know who that is. One of those people with idealistic radical free market hopes.Their idealism reminds me of the idealism of communism. It works in the short term but will never work in the long term. Maybe if humans can change their nature. It all sounds good on paper. But you want to see a free market without regulation. Check out post soviet union Russia. Everyone was corrupt.
John Adams without a doubt is probably the most underrated founder of the usa. But after learning more about him, you cant simply resist admiring him for his valor and his zeal for liberty and justice for all. Great movie, one that i think every American should watch, to see what these guys went through so we can have our freedom today
@eldiezmaradona u spelled it out ima canadian and i even wanna see this movie i like history but i may have only heard about this guy like once in a whisper in maybe AOE3 or the patriot, so nice
A few people said they didn`t like this because they felt Giamatti was miscast, but he wasn`t not in the least. Adams looks a LOT like Giamatti. Same eyes, same mouth, the only difference was the nose.

Really? How great is life for Americans overall nowdays? The fact is that western Europe passed U.S.A. in the 1960's when it came to social matters, living standards and not at least democraticly - and that dispite some of the European nations are/were monarchies!? At least thanks to Obama you finally have a public health care, as any other "developed country"! Your next step in your reforming would be with your helariously great poverty (especially among the blacks).
hey 17461771, i dont know if that comment was for me but basically you read what i wrote wrong....first off i didnt vote for obama and when i see john adams, it is exactly how america should be, not what its headed to with the new administration not to say the last on e was at all perfect but id rather live here then any other poor country..
Maybe in social welfare. We have radical free market corporatists like Reagan to thank for reversing the new deal and pushing corporate supremacy. But like with Europe maybe it will have to get bad enough that people will finally deal with these issues.
@jxsilicon9 The free market is never to blame for corporate supremacy. The New Deal helped to destroy what was good in American. And do you want to know who benefited the most from F.D.R.'s New Deal? Big corporations did. The New Deal hurt small businesses the most, but barely touched the fat cats of the day. The free market is the only thing that makes it possible for big corporations to go under & for small businesses to prosper.
One could argue that free markets are an invitation for monopolies. Do you really think your local farmer can control anything if all is grain comes from Monsanto?
I'm not a socialist, but this is something that has been occupying my mind for quit some time. Free markets sound nice but are they?
@Thx1138d Don't quite recall where I read it, but I know that Tom Hanks, who also produced John Adams, was involved with a new HBO mini series based on the 1776 book by McColough. BTW, love your user name! Very cool! :)
Yes but they had hemp, Hemp was not aginist the law. Wow we can not even make string and rope anymore. I wonder if that is why we owe so much to the banks.
His administration along with several others shares some disturbing similarities to the communist manifesto, you should read it, this claim deserves speculation at least.
I can only hope that Comrade Obama and his socialist, anti-freedom, statist, Kool-Aiders take notice of the lessons, illustrated by the life of John Adams.
i watched this show in school, and i for one always didnt like history, and now i have an A in social studies, JOHN ADAMS, hbo series made words form the book come to life and i love it and im the type of girl who watches gossip girl and one tree hill.....this is such a great show:)
if u see the part of the guy at 0:29 to 0:31 they were puting tared on him nd my teacher said that it was super hot that it can burn u nd i saw that scene nd after that they put feathers on him so that they humiliated him nd he was like but naked they took his clothes off before they started taring him it was crazy nd sad
You see that guys face when he was told about the attacks at first, also when he was so deceiving when he said referring to the mushroom cloud making his case for Iraq, however we offer more to Iraq than the enemy does that's for sure.
As far as this series goes, John Adams(The series) was brilliant.
There have been four great hyperpowers in world history. Chinese Empire, Roman Empire, British Empire, and the United States.
regulation sorry, we have earned some respect back in the world something that was lost under the Bush administration. Iraq?? VERY UNECCESSARY, eventhough Saddam was a brutal dictator, we should have just focused on Afghanistan and things would have been better, but because of our brave troops and the iraqis coming to our side and their government getting stronger we will prevail I believe. Afghanistan, we have work to do. I wouldn't be suprised if that piece of shit knew about 9/11(Bush)
We were a HYPERPOWER(WHICH MEANS WE ARE DOMINANT IN ALL ASPECTS) a few years ago, but we have taken a hit economically so we are a Superpower right now. We need better leadership(which I hope this current administration brings) and we need regualtion which is being done, the days of easy money are gone. I am just glad the oilman and his cronies are out of the white house.
This was a great miniseries. So many people have no idea who John Adams was and it's a real shame because he was such a significant figure in America's creation. Yet he's also a very poignant and tragic figure as well.
you could argue that the americanos were spoiled kids who didn't know how good they had it under Gerorge III. they wanted protection from the Brits but they didn't wanna pay for it (taxes) etc. --kinda same today!! Americans want a lot of services from government but they don't wanna pay for em (taxes)
well i said services that could mean a lot of things--highways, bridges, schools, prisions etc., plus americans want the strongerst military in the world but pay for it? and yeah Medicare does cost a lot--more than in EU.
anyways the continutiy i was speculating about was like the colonial era--americans wanted lots of protection from London: keep the Atlantic safe for trade, chase the French away, keep the Indians at bay so the colonials could keep expanding...but hey pay for it!! No way.
While i do not mean to disagree with you, brother, we are indeed headed for a nanny state at a frightening rate.
I would rather be left alone to prosper. People on both sides of the "political spectrum" seem to want a president who will show them the way. Thus the best liar gets in office.
Diverse culture? Ah no. H L Menkin back in the 1920s said "No one ever lost a dime underestimating the taste of the American people" and ah, NOTHING has changed since then. Just look around: African-AMerican, Latino, Irish, Jewish, WASP, Asians: they all live to buy more cheap junk made in China and priced at 100 times cost of production.. Mass consumer culture is what binds Americanos together. You are the foolish one to see a diversity (a PC buzz term by the way) where there is none.
Way to miss the point numb nuts. Consumerism..... pffft.
There are those of us who would like to have limited government and who would like to uphold our constitution and be self sufficient while there are those who clamor for a nanny state to protect them and run their lives.
Those are completely opposite views and I see people who hold these views and everything in between every day.
i didnt realize you had a point to miss...if you dont think that mass consumerism is central to American culture since end of WWII than you have been living on Mars (the red planet!)...besides what do you mean uphold our constitution? like you have some special understanding of our constitution? you know it isnt that explicit a document. limited government? yeah everyone says that until you start taking away medicare, SSA, military spending, and then its a different story
Consumerism is central to all people. It is like saying, people are predictable because they eat food.
What do I mean? I mean that a proper and strict interpretation of the constitution and the bill of rights is politically essential to many of us. You are right, we do not make up the majority but it doesn't mean we do not exist, as your sweeping statement implied.
Yeah, limited government. I wish we would do away with those government programs and more.
i said MASS consumerism--you know a mall on every street corner and a bunch of freeways to connect them all and suburban garages filled with junk-central to all people you say? em, I guess the Nigerians and Kenyans missed that. Even in China it is next to impossible to get people to buy consumer goods...jeeez the government is even experimenting with paying people in coupons rather than money to force their people to buy things instead of putting 90 percent of their money under their mattress.
That is just the difference between having money and don't having it. The more money you have at your disposal means that you will be able to consume more.
Of course you mentioned piss poor countries like Nigeria and Kenya which have probably never been wealthy, at least in modern history.
ur the one who said consumerism was central to ALL peoples. So i mentioned a few countries that it clearly is not. You were not careful with how you phrased your point. I also mentioned a great power--China--which is also not a consumerist society, a key reason we have such a massive trade inbalance with them. Indeed the PRC government has made one it current priorities figuring how to FORCE her people to consume, to spend their money instead of sticking under their beds. But you said ALL people
I suppose that people in Nigeria, Kenya and China do not consume.
These countries could not mass consume because they did not have wealth or credit at their disposal like the United States has.
Once China becomes the econmic superpower of the world, you can bet your delusional ass that they are going to resort to mass consumerism as well. This may happen sooner than you think as the dollar crashes and they stop pegging their currency to it.
China will never be the world superpower or at least anytime soon, they are world power though but not a superpower, some American companies have cheap chinese labor make our goods. However, we still make our own goods, but not as we used to, also China was charging high tariffs on our imports and that piece of garbage Bush administration let it happen. China will collapse on it's own weight, large population to sustain, poverty, other problems like Tibet, etc.
China just laid off 26 million people from their factories. We are still way ahead of China. However, we have taken a hit economically, we weren't what we were ten years ago but we are still the strongest country on the planet. I am just glad those pieces of garbage(Bush administration are out of the white house) We will revamp and we will be back strong, alternative energy is the way of the future, hopefully one day we will not need foreign oil.
yeah culturally/ethnic diversity doesnt seem to translate much in politics. 99 percent of elected USA national officials are Democrats or Republicans....yeah lot of diversity all right...
Pulling numbers out of your ass and generalizing like you know what every american thinks shows how simplistic you are, Democrats and republicans would indeed be different if they actually stuck to their party's platform. Yet you seem to completely ignore libertarians and constitutionalists which make up about 20% of people.
pulling number out of my ass? Let's see i said about 90 percent of elected officials in national government are Dems or Reps and you disagree? I can think of only 2 non Dem and Reps-Saunders (socialist) and Leiberman (independent) and even they caucus with the 2 parties. IF ANYTHING I OVERSTATED the "diversity" of political representation in D.C. So what matters if USA is culturally and with ethnics etc.? in politics they still go for column A or column B--overwhelming so. No political diversity
90% is not 99% you changed your statement by a factor of 10. Thus you understated it, not overstated it. Because you can't think of them doesn't mean they do not exist.
of course i am generalizing==we are talking about 300 million people obviously one generalizes...the sad problem is the demographic surveys pretty much confirm the generalizations...as far as knowing what ever american thinks i never said anything such think nor would i want to know what every american thinks...i will leave that to O Rielly...I only was speaking of what is generally true of groups...any ways who cares what individuals think...when is last time one vote decided an election?
Direct quote: "Americans want a lot of services from government but they don't wanna pay for em (taxes) "
I dont. Matter of fact, I know more people who want to be left alone than receive "government services". As an american and as a capitalist I take offense to that.
I know plenty of people who are self sufficient and can live off the land if they wish. I am certain they also would take offense to your pretentiousness
yes be we arent talking about you specifically. i said Americans not who ever you are the individual. I dont know all the people u seem to know that are all so self suficient...they must be the minority that arent packed into malls...24/7...if all these americans were all so self suficient i cant see why we would have a massive trade deficit with the PRC...now there is a self sufficent people.
Direct quote: "you could argue that the americanos were spoiled kids who didn't know how good they had it under Gerorge III. they wanted protection from the Brits but they didn't wanna pay for it (taxes) etc. --kinda same today!! "
Yet you argue that Americans during revolutionary times were spoiled brats because they didn't want to be dependent on George III.
Ah, yeah, China. Let's forget about "The great leap forward" and tens of millions dying. So much for self-sufficiency.
if u dont think/know that mindless mass consumer spending drives the American economy that you just havent been alive in the post WWII era. But what is this all about anyways? I started out saying that Brits had a point in Colonial Era that Americans wanted a lot (Brit protection of the seas, Brit protection from Indians and French etc) but they didnt want to pay for it i.e pay up in taxes. I see a certain truth to their claim and see it still alive today.
The american colonies gave more than enough contributions to the crown. Because George III was fighting yet another silly war against the French royalty and wanted to extort American colonists to fund his war without their permission does not mean that they demanded much.
They had no representation in the Parliament, yet they were subjected to taxes without their permission. They were after all, Englishmen, but they were treated as second class citizens.
what are u talking about? The French-Indian/7 yrs. war was a popular war with colonials. They wanted the Catholic French and their Indian allies dealt with. Besides being Catholic, their Indian allies stood in the way of colonial expansion, crucial to a people used to prorperty holding. Colonial militias fought with the Brits. Then came time to pay and the colonials (or many of em) were: can't somebody else do it? we fought in the militas so that is enough and we are a secure market for Brits
the first 1/2 of this series is A LOT stronger than than the 2nd. I get the impression the far more controversial presidency of Adams wasnt to McCullough's liking and so he avoids dealing with it in detail--you know throwing people in prision for exercisng the right of free speech, little things like that.
were watching this movie in social studies. were on the second to last part. and let me say this much. i have never had greater intrest in john admas time period. this movie makes me want to learn. and my s.s teacher is great at it. but common a movie that teaches and entertains. how can you not love it
Oh my gosh, this guy was a horrible leader. Alien and Sedition Acts anybody? for someone who stands for freedem, he was quick to shut the Dem-Rep mouths. That's why he was only pres. for 4 years. Washington X 9 times the man Adams EVER was.
You can't compare the two. This isn't a "Kobe or Jordan" debate. We are talking about our founding fathers. John Adams was an honorable man. No man is perfect. Do some more research, and you will discover many great qualities of this man.
yeah, the series really soft pedals the down side of Adams like the Alien and Sedition Act; If they have a case to make for em do so but they basically avoid it and avoid the midnight appointments controversy too
Thank fuck the monarchy are not in control of either country now. The world is a safer place when the people have a say on who is elected to power and control over the country.
Begs the question whats the point of a monarchy in the 21st century. one thing still remains a fact from those days you cant trust the french. Dam french want to replace business language from English to French. hehe like that would happen.
Awesome!!! It makes me wonder however, that our current state is leaders that more represent King GeorgeIII, than our founding fathers. And I'm stating this not for one side or the other, but at the both of them!
"Liberty cannot be perserved without the general knowledge among the people." John Adams
I'm afraid to say that I believe the majority of our leaders today fall within this category, 'lacking general knowledge'.
We were watching this in history class, and I loved it the most. But then I got sick on Wednesday and I couldn't finish it. AND I CAN'T FIND IT ON YOUTUBE, DAMMIT!!! XD

Slaves built nation from Washington, DC all the way to Mount Rushmore to the Rail Road to the Factories and made the white man super rich. After all these years in America til this year 2010, we are still left behind and they have no respect for us at all.
jeanol1 1 year ago
@jeanol1 : All races and ethnic groups have built this great nation. To make a comment that "Slaves" or Africans built everything is simpy ignorance. I'm sure my German ancestors who who worked in glass factories, My Welsh ancestors who worked in coal mines, and my Italian ancestors who worked on the railroad, had something to do with it also. I understand that the African have had the greatest struggle, but move on and stop looking back, or that is where you will stay. In the past
chufuss 1 year ago 3
@jeanol1 They built a lot of it physically, but it ends there.
americanpatriot226 1 year ago
@jeanol1 That isn't correct. Slaves definitely built Washington DC. But you are posting your overreaching complaint on the trailer for a film about the man who very nearly persuaded Congress to abolish slavery with the Declaration of Independence. John Adams was the only founding father who owned no slaves and who pushed for abolition to the end of his days.
melarry 1 year ago 4
@melarry - I understand what you're saying, if slavery wasn't big business and profitable to the white man, why they kept it going for so long?
jeanol1 1 year ago
@jeanol1 It was big business and profitable, but that's two entirely different' things from the contentions you were stating. As I said, you are posting these things on a trailer regarding a TV series for the one person you shouldn't have a complaint with. That said, I don't think you or the other people who've posted are minorities at all. I think you're trolls. You're portraying a very racist image of what you see a black person as being. This will be my last post to you.

Your next step in your reforming would be with your helariously great poverty (especially among the blacks).

hey 17461771, i dont know if that comment was for me but basically you read what i wrote wrong....first off i didnt vote for obama and when i see john adams, it is exactly how america should be, not what its headed to with the new administration not to say the last on e was at all perfect but id rather live here then any other poor country..
dgiovanni25 2 years ago
Maybe in social welfare. We have radical free market corporatists like Reagan to thank for reversing the new deal and pushing corporate supremacy. But like with Europe maybe it will have to get bad enough that people will finally deal with these issues.
jxsilicon9 2 years ago
@jxsilicon9 The free market is never to blame for corporate supremacy. The New Deal helped to destroy what was good in American. And do you want to know who benefited the most from F.D.R.'s New Deal? Big corporations did. The New Deal hurt small businesses the most, but barely touched the fat cats of the day. The free market is the only thing that makes it possible for big corporations to go under & for small businesses to prosper.

Victory1981 2 years ago
regulation sorry, we have earned some respect back in the world something that was lost under the Bush administration. Iraq?? VERY UNECCESSARY, eventhough Saddam was a brutal dictator, we should have just focused on Afghanistan and things would have been better, but because of our brave troops and the iraqis coming to our side and their government getting stronger we will prevail I believe. Afghanistan, we have work to do. I wouldn't be suprised if that piece of shit knew about 9/11(Bush)

well i said services that could mean a lot of things--highways, bridges, schools, prisions etc., plus americans want the strongerst military in the world but pay for it? and yeah Medicare does cost a lot--more than in EU.
wbaker7 2 years ago
anyways the continutiy i was speculating about was like the colonial era--americans wanted lots of protection from London: keep the Atlantic safe for trade, chase the French away, keep the Indians at bay so the colonials could keep expanding...but hey pay for it!! No way.
wbaker7 2 years ago
While i do not mean to disagree with you, brother, we are indeed headed for a nanny state at a frightening rate.
I would rather be left alone to prosper. People on both sides of the "political spectrum" seem to want a president who will show them the way. Thus the best liar gets in office.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
LOL, you talk about americans as if a culturally and ethnically diverse nation of over 300 million has a singular mindset.
How foolish.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
Diverse culture? Ah no. H L Menkin back in the 1920s said "No one ever lost a dime underestimating the taste of the American people" and ah, NOTHING has changed since then. Just look around: African-AMerican, Latino, Irish, Jewish, WASP, Asians: they all live to buy more cheap junk made in China and priced at 100 times cost of production.. Mass consumer culture is what binds Americanos together. You are the foolish one to see a diversity (a PC buzz term by the way) where there is none.
wbaker7 2 years ago
Way to miss the point numb nuts. Consumerism..... pffft.
There are those of us who would like to have limited government and who would like to uphold our constitution and be self sufficient while there are those who clamor for a nanny state to protect them and run their lives.
Those are completely opposite views and I see people who hold these views and everything in between every day.
Consumerism... What an idiot.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
i didnt realize you had a point to miss...if you dont think that mass consumerism is central to American culture since end of WWII than you have been living on Mars (the red planet!)...besides what do you mean uphold our constitution? like you have some special understanding of our constitution? you know it isnt that explicit a document. limited government? yeah everyone says that until you start taking away medicare, SSA, military spending, and then its a different story
wbaker7 2 years ago
Of course you didn't realize.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
i said MASS consumerism--you know a mall on every street corner and a bunch of freeways to connect them all and suburban garages filled with junk-central to all people you say? em, I guess the Nigerians and Kenyans missed that. Even in China it is next to impossible to get people to buy consumer goods...jeeez the government is even experimenting with paying people in coupons rather than money to force their people to buy things instead of putting 90 percent of their money under their mattress.
wbaker7 2 years ago
Oh, MASS consumerism!!! Now I get it!!!
That is just the difference between having money and don't having it. The more money you have at your disposal means that you will be able to consume more.
Of course you mentioned piss poor countries like Nigeria and Kenya which have probably never been wealthy, at least in modern history.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
ur the one who said consumerism was central to ALL peoples. But you said ALL people
wbaker7 2 years ago
I suppose that people in Nigeria, Kenya and China do not consume.
These countries could not mass consume because they did not have wealth or credit at their disposal like the United States has.
Once China becomes the econmic superpower of the world, you can bet your delusional ass that they are going to resort to mass consumerism as well. This may happen sooner than you think as the dollar crashes and they stop pegging their currency to it.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
China will never be the world superpower or at least anytime soon, they are world power though but not a superpower, some American companies have cheap chinese labor make our goods. However, we still make our own goods, but not as we used to, also China was charging high tariffs on our imports and that piece of garbage Bush administration let it happen. China will collapse on it's own weight, large population to sustain, poverty, other problems like Tibet, etc.
Victory1981 2 years ago
China just laid off 26 million people from their factories. We are still way ahead of China. However, we have taken a hit economically, we weren't what we were ten years ago but we are still the strongest country on the planet. I am just glad those pieces of garbage(Bush administration are out of the white house) We will revamp and we will be back strong, alternative energy is the way of the future, hopefully one day we will not need foreign oil.
Victory1981 2 years ago
yeah culturally/ethnic diversity doesnt seem to translate much in politics. 99 percent of elected USA national officials are Democrats or Republicans....yeah lot of diversity all right...
wbaker7 2 years ago
Pulling numbers out of your ass and generalizing like you know what every american thinks shows how simplistic you are, Democrats and republicans would indeed be different if they actually stuck to their party's platform. Yet you seem to completely ignore libertarians and constitutionalists which make up about 20% of people.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
pulling number out of my ass? Let's see i said about 90 percent of elected officials in national government are Dems or Reps and you disagree? I can think of only 2 non Dem and Reps-Saunders (socialist) and Leiberman (independent) and even they caucus with the 2 parties. IF ANYTHING I OVERSTATED the "diversity" of political representation in D.C. So what matters if USA is culturally and with ethnics etc.? in politics they still go for column A or column B--overwhelming so. No political diversity
wbaker7 2 years ago
90% is not 99% you changed your statement by a factor of 10. Thus you understated it, not overstated it. Because you can't think of them doesn't mean they do not exist.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
of course i am generalizing==we are talking about 300 million people obviously one generalizes...the sad problem is the demographic surveys pretty much confirm the generalizations...as far as knowing what ever american thinks i never said anything such think nor would i want to know what every american thinks...i will leave that to O Rielly...I only was speaking of what is generally true of groups...any ways who cares what individuals think...when is last time one vote decided an election?
wbaker7 2 years ago
Direct quote: "Americans want a lot of services from government but they don't wanna pay for em (taxes) "
I dont. Matter of fact, I know more people who want to be left alone than receive "government services". As an american and as a capitalist I take offense to that.
I know plenty of people who are self sufficient and can live off the land if they wish. I am certain they also would take offense to your pretentiousness
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago 2
yes be we arent talking about you specifically. i said Americans not who ever you are the individual. I dont know all the people u seem to know that are all so self suficient...they must be the minority that arent packed into malls...24/7...if all these americans were all so self suficient i cant see why we would have a massive trade deficit with the PRC...now there is a self sufficent people.
wbaker7 2 years ago
Direct quote: "you could argue that the americanos were spoiled kids who didn't know how good they had it under Gerorge III. they wanted protection from the Brits but they didn't wanna pay for it (taxes) etc. --kinda same today!! "
Yet you argue that Americans during revolutionary times were spoiled brats because they didn't want to be dependent on George III.
Ah, yeah, China. Let's forget about "The great leap forward" and tens of millions dying. So much for self-sufficiency.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
if u dont think/know that mindless mass consumer spending drives the American economy that you just havent been alive in the post WWII era. But what is this all about anyways? I started out saying that Brits had a point in Colonial Era that Americans wanted a lot (Brit protection of the seas, Brit protection from Indians and French etc) but they didnt want to pay for it i.e pay up in taxes. I see a certain truth to their claim and see it still alive today.
wbaker7 2 years ago
The american colonies gave more than enough contributions to the crown. Because George III was fighting yet another silly war against the French royalty and wanted to extort American colonists to fund his war without their permission does not mean that they demanded much.
They had no representation in the Parliament, yet they were subjected to taxes without their permission. They were after all, Englishmen, but they were treated as second class citizens.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
what are u talking about? The French-Indian/7 yrs. war was a popular war with colonials. They wanted the Catholic French and their Indian allies dealt with. Besides being Catholic, their Indian allies stood in the way of colonial expansion, crucial to a people used to prorperty holding. Colonial militias fought with the Brits. Then came time to pay and the colonials (or many of em) were: can't somebody else do it? we fought in the militas so that is enough and we are a secure market for Brits
wbaker7 2 years ago
the first 1/2 of this series is A LOT stronger than than the 2nd. You can't compare the two. This isn't a "Kobe or Jordan" debate. We are talking about our founding fathers. John Adams was an honorable man. No man is perfect. Do some more research, and you will discover many great qualities of this man.
