Words cannot express how much I love this song. It takes me to another place and time, a time when storytellers kept people spellbound around a campfire as magic and enchantment wove themselves into the nighttime's mists. Simply beautiful.

And for those who don't know, a skald is a Norse poet, sort of like an English bard (correct me if I'm wrong; I had to look it up myself).

And I agree, I like this version better. It feels more folk-song-y and timeless performed this way.

do any of you actually know what a Skald is? And what the song is actually referring to? Skalds are Norse bards and referring to them telling the tales of great warriors. Hence the line the carrion bird and the hall of slain. It's an incredible song none the less. :)
