@ OREGONREPTILEMAN Please post the status of your permit application here. I would love to know if it is granted. I was told directly by the USFWS that the permits would only be granted to educational & zoological institutes. They also told me the chances of a business being granted a permit even for educational purposes were at best "extremely remote" as it could undermine the purpose of the interstate sales & transportation ban. Please keep us updated on your progress with this.
@repterrareptiles the sad thing is theres enough people to overturn this ban im in oregon just like you eventully all reptiles will be in this situation unforuntily im not a python enthuest however i have owend an African rock python at one time this law is wrong an its gonna ruin alot of peoples livings an may leave some people even homeless
I am applying for a permit to transport my python to school programs and have found the process to be 100 times more difficult and time consuming then it is to get a permit for my concealed weapon, and a permit for a suppressor for my gun.
PLEASE READ!!!! It seens some of you have not read the description in this video. I did fix the typos & made a few other edits & added some other info from the USGS report the next day after posting this video!!! The updated video is called, "UPDATED 1/19/12: The Truth About The Python Ban"
@DaphDawg Now onto your "ban" comment. Theses species were added to the "Lacey Act" which is a law that has been in effect for meny years. There is no new law. Adding them to this list does "ban" the import of these species. It also bans the interstate sale & transport of them. As far as "regulation" & "permits", I was told directly by the USFWS that there will only be premitting for educational purposes. There is no permitting for interstate sales...this has been banned.
@DaphDawg I appreciate your knowledge & input. I'm not sure if you have read the USGS report, but I have. Many things are misleading in that report. For instance, the "spread prediction" is based on "if" a certain "climate change" model were to come true. Not what climate change is actually taking place. Next, the DOI has already stated that they will add Retics, Green Anacondas & Boa Constrictors at a later date. You can see that in there statement & on their website.
@lostbot101 Please define "too many times". While I firmly believe that 1 child is too many...you have been severely misled if you truly believe what you wrote. The fact is that more children are killed by pet dogs, swimming pools & corn dogs. But as DaphDawg & I have both clearly stated...this "ban" was not passed for the alledged"danger" the animals pose to the public.
Wow! Many great comments here! Let me start by saying once again that I along with the vast majority of the reptile community agree that the Burmese Pythons ARE a problem in the Everglades. I myself want every last one removed...yeas that means dead or alive. They do not belong there & are causing problems. I also never state in my video anywhere that the "ban' was related to anything but environmental issues. Once again, I AGREE THE EVERGALDES PYTHONS NEED TO BE REMOVED!!! Is that clear yet?
Now let's discuss the term "ban". There is no ban! The legislation simple regulates interstate transport and does allow for permitting. Do you know that it is illegal to transport a chicken across state lines without a permit? No one is up in arms over that.
True that aspects of the legislation may have been misleading but this video is misleading as well as well as many of the comments below. The "ban" is in no way meant to target animals that hurt people (that's why Retics and Green Anaconda were not included). They animals that were are ones that do have environmental tolerances that may allow their spread to localized areas. As a zoo professioal and herpetologist I have seen the data and concur there is that possibility.
We in the herp community brought this all upon ourselves. It doesn't matter that we all know that the Burms in the Everglades have nothing to do with the pet trade or that pet dogs injure and kill more people than any type of pet snake. We failed in educating the general pubic. We failed to police ourselves. We failed to be proactive. It only takes so many news articles about "giant prehistoric monsters" running amock, eating the neighbor's cat, and strangling toddlers to scare the public.
just because YOU have a thing for snakes does not make it all okay!!!!! i love all animals in this world but they all "belong" in their own rhelm. maybe you should go live in the everglades to be CLOSE to you friends. as for the rest of us,,,we would like these controls. we do need the government to watch out for these things because humans cannot be trusted to do THE RIGHT THING especially when it comes to a species like this. you can scream all you want about it but your wrong,,period.
I present over 500 live reptile programs to schools and other organizations in the state of Oregon and Washington every year since 1991. It took me 22 years of hard work to get to this point and they just destroy it with a flick of a pen. I have a home, wife and three children who depend on me.
did anyone ever consider that they might do this python ban to keep people fearful of snakes - and the feelings in their own body? does anyone even have a clue about that? do you know what is being taken away from you? do you know the extend of the theft? it goes far beyond small business and pet owners. It is sick, but that is what world governments are today, sick, stuck in the old way, not willing to accept the truth and the new way based upon that truth...
@HOORVT Yeah. It seems to me this ban is more about making some politicians look good for "saving" the public from "scary" snakes rather than a genuine concern for the environment or public safety. Similar to bans on pit bulls, german shepherds, rottweilers and other "scary" dog breeds. Making people keep their cats on their property would help the environment way more, but you won't see these politicians trying to pass that law because would make them unpopular.
So let's get this straight, if you live in FL and there is a hurricane and you need to evacuate, you must now leave your Burmese Python in FL and risk them getting released? Yeah they didn't think this through did they?
Ok everyone. I have fixed the typos, made a few other edits & added some other info from the USGS report. The updated video is called, "UPDATED 1/19/12: The Truth About The Python Ban"
I'm a snake owner and I can kind of see they're point. Although I don't think the government should just go and ban snakes. It'll only cause outrage and make exotics just another thing to smuggle across boarders. Instead force snake and other exotic pet owners to obtain a special license to own them. Too many times have I head of careless people getting a snake cause they think it's cool but then become overwhelmed with it and release it in their back yard. Stupid people should not own pets.
This is a great video and the facts are well summarized. I will certainly be resharing this. However, one minor thing that you might want to fix- feral is misspelled. Could you fix it please? It helps to look as professional as possible to people who might judge people like us.
Hey guys, this is a great video. I just shared it on FB. One thing, though...there are a few typos you may want to fix to make the video appear more professional. I noticed the following:
Lastly - the FEAR of snakes Keeps people fearful of things in general - they want to keep the public fearful of everything
snake owners do not help government keep the fear that has been installed into humanity over its existence - snake owners break that boundary - again they dont like that
more so because the snakes movement represents feelings in deep meditation - they want to keep us fearful of it
They use their fake reasons to mentally imprison us all
yeah this is what ive been saying - they are liars
1. its a local florida issue or at most southern states that do not drop below a certain temperature, certainly not needed for all of america
2. there are 10000's troops deployed all over the world - why not bring home 5000 or 10000 and have them form a human line and then walk through the entire everglades and get them all - do it 10 times if need - they spend 10 years+ in mid east, why not 1 or 2 in florida.
If you guys really want to get your point across, especially at the political level, you might want to spell 'feral' correctly in your video. Yes, whether you like it or not, spelling errors DO reduce credibility.
@HOORVT no no you got me all worng pepole i love snakes your right pythons do make good pets its just how can i stop this python ban and your right snakes do bond with pepole
help save the pythons are you with me so we can stop this ban and good comment and now i wll subscrib to your channel and maybe we can stop this python ban have a good day my friend
@25thesnake So what will you do when they come for your pets? After all PETA and HSUS think it's cruel to have ANY pets. Wayne Pacelle said, "One generation and out. We have no problems with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding." Ingrid Newkirk said, "For one thing, we would no longer allow breeding… as the surplus of cats and dogs declined, eventually companion animals would be phased out…We would no longer allow…pet shops."
@Tiki108 no matter where I am, if someone hurts any of my animals,
I stand up,
and I cut their heads off.
there comes a point when you have to say enough is enough, and when they attack you by outlawing the ones you love - line must be drawn
Simply - the US gov is asking americans to arm themselves with guns and take over america, they are trying to challenge the constitution in hope that we will retaliate, but there is no single force strong enough to retaliate at this point -
@25thesnake Also think about it, if the snakes get a full ban they will be euthanized, so does that hurt? Not sure never been euthanized. Why do you think I should lose the animals I love?
@Tiki108 no no you got me all worng pepole do have the right to buy pythons and i do love snakes snakes are most beautiful animal on earth but how can we stop this python ban and help save the python
@25thesnake learn what don't tread on me really means
and raise the flag, then burn it, and then feel it disappear - if you can do that inside your body - you will be enlightened - you will need to re-formulate all of your ideas and connections - once that is done - you will be ready to fight.

but now - the true objective is to limit ways we can self employ ourselves
the only thing hurt is our freedom to own snakes and our freedom to make a living breeding them
basically it is a job they can not control, especially local sales - and they do not like that
they have taken this opportunity to eliminate a job which they can not control who is profiting
they do not want people who are against their cult to ever figure out any more of the truth or they will be in big trouble

@25thesnake why would you not want people to own pythons - they are beautiful clean animals
yes it hurts the snakes - what will people do with extra babies? how will existing snakes in America live when an owner needs to move states?
Snakes BOND with people, they get used to people and expect them - separating them can make them stressed and depressed just as people do
Now snakes will get smuggled - many of them will die going accross boarders being shoved in little containers & products
