No it's not necessary to learn all the kanjis but it would be wise to learn the more common ones. Most Japanese highschool students can't even read the local newspaper because they need college courses to finish up there kanji charts. But the Hiragana and Katakana charts are most important, so don't stress too much on the kanjis :) I hope that answers your question! Keep learning!!!
Thanks, it does answer my question, and it helps, I also have another question about the alphabet, if the Hiragana and the Katakana, they both have the same number of letters, and they make the same sound but they look different, why? Does it have to do with lower and uppercase letters?
Yes it is true that both the Hiragana chart and Katakana chart have the same alphabet and sounds but both types of writing serve a purpose. Hiragana is used for all Japanese words while Katakana is used for foreign words, like English names for example. I hope that answers your question!
I think it would be best to know kanjis, atleast the ones you're expected to learn in school because its highly unlikely that someone is going to write everything in hiragana/katakana for you.. you should be able to read both alphabets, and then the kanjis to be as fluent in reading as you can(:
@munruthel1 Kanji will come later on, if you are truly looking to learn Japanese seriously, then you'll probably want to learn Kanji. It is difficult, however, it actually helps reading a lot, and it helps understand how words are conjugated. (Not to mention you cant read much Japanese text if you dont know Kanji) ^^
Sry about the delay. I moved from California to Virginia and drove the entire way, not to mention I forgot my password lol! I'll have the first lesson up this Sunday. Sry for the wait.
There is just one or two mistake in your speech:
私は子どもが「あいだから」、「ねむいです」。should be corrected to
私は子どもが「いるので」、「疲れます」。
