@bmyluva But some people are on medications like prednisone or have a low thyroid. Of course not ALL,but a number of them do. Actually as many as 200,0000 Americans have poor thyroid function,and are undiagnosed and because of this those people will continue to gain weight. Again not all do,but a number of people do have medical problems that cause weight gain

@bmyluva It probably depends on the person,I did know of someone that gained like 50 pounds in a very short time from a rare hypothyroid disorder(so not the norm in most overweight people) And the thing with Prednisone is,it;s not actually FAT your gaining but water retention. I have known people on this as well,and it looks VERY different than being fat. Obese is not the same as being overweight

Old cliche - it's not always WHAT you say but HOW you say it....yes, there is an obesity epidemic and people need to be more conscious about their health (not just how you look - obesity, no matter how you look or what you feel, is NOT HEALTHY) but there is NO reason to belittle someone because they are struggling with their weight. I'm 5'8 and just weighed myself today. I weigh 167 and actually gained 3 pounds in the last months while planning to actually lose 24 to become 140. Actually, I find that the more a person worries about their weight, the more likely they are to eat and be further behind in their fitness goals. Ladies, accept yourself the way you are to begin with and then gradually work your way up to being the way you want and don't worry about what people think.

@JermzzzyFTW to me, obesity (not necessary being plus-size; I have plus-size friends that are only considered overweight and not technically obese, which is a bmi of over 30) signals a lack of care for oneself. I see it as unhealthy. I KNOW lots of people say they are obese and healthy, but frankly I do not buy it. A study shows that women who are obese die much earlier on average than women who are average weight AND heavy smokers. It just appears as if they don't care.

Actually as many as 200,0000 Americans have poor thyroid function,and are undiagnosed and because of this those people will continue to gain weight. @bmyluva It probably depends on the person,I did know of someone that gained like 50 pounds in a very short time from a rare hypothyroid disorder(so not the norm in most overweight people) And the thing with Prednisone is,it;s not actually FAT your gaining but water retention. I have known people on this as well,and it looks VERY different than being fat. Obese is not the same as being overweight

I'm 5'8 and just weighed myself today. I weigh 167 and actually gained 3 pounds in the last months while planning to actually lose 24 to become 140. Actually, I find that the more a person worries about their weight, the more likely they are to eat and be further behind in their fitness goals. I see it as unhealthy. I KNOW lots of people say they are obese and healthy, but frankly I do not buy it. A study shows that women who are obese die much earlier on average than women who are average weight AND heavy smokers. It just appears as if they don't care.

This reminds me of the ANTM episode where Tyra said girls think the opposite of being "Fake" is rudeness. So what if someones fat if he/she is happy that way it shouldn't matter live and let live. Some people can't even help it. My dad fought for our country in Vietnam and was exposed to chemicals. He has to take SO MUCH medication daily. It keeps his system in check but makes him unable to lose weight when he is not lazy at all nor eat a lot. So people have problems with pregnancy and thyroid.

@Shineefan98ify I know that a person can be "overweight" and still be in the healthy part of the BMI but notice I specified "unhealthily overweight", basically meaning obese to the point where their weight poses a threat to their overall health. that kind of obesity is NOT okay. Its okay to appreciate different body types which I believe are beautiful in their own way but its not okay to condone an unhealthy lifestyle

@nkb9876 Nope, because, there's no history of health problems in my family, and my doctors have actually told I'm healthy. You can be 'over-weight' and be perfectly healthy. I have fine blood pressure and eating habits, I'm 'over-weight' because I just am, I always have been. And I've never had any health problem relating to my weight.

What is wrong is being malicious and cruel to fat people just for the sake of hurting their feelings and putting them down. Why would you hurt a stranger by telling them their fat and nasty when you don't even know them? Why would you hurt someone who has never done anything to you?
